Actress Kathryn Newton is best known for her role as Cassie Lang in the MCU. The daughter of Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man joined the franchise in last year’s disastrous Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumnia. The actress recently mentioned that she wanted her character to begin finding out about her own identity apart from being Ant-Man’s daughter.
Cassie Lang has been touted to be a part of a Young Avenger team with younger superheroes in the MCU such as Kamala Khan a.k.a Ms. Marvel and Kate Bishop. A reference to Khan joining forces with Lang was shown in the recent MCU disaster The Marvels. However, fans seem to be disinterested in this new journey for the character.
Kathryn Newton Wants Cassie Lang To Move On From Ant-Man
One of the most humanizing parts of Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man is his love for his daughter Cassie Lang. A young version of the character was played to perfection by child actress Abbie Ryder Forston in Ant-Man and the sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp. After the Blip i.e. the snap of Thanos that occurred in Avengers: Infinity War, Lang grows up and meets her father, who has been stuck in the Quantum Realm. She was played by Emma Furhmann.
Fuhrmann was replaced by Kathryn Newton in the threequel Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, where her heroic side was explored more. Lang grew to be an activist who helped victims of the Blip while also working on a device that established contact with the Quantum Realm. Her device opens up the Quantum Realm, pulls in the gang once again, and sets the events in motion.
Kathryn Newton recently spoke to Screen Rant about her ideas for the character. She mentioned that she hoped Cassie Lang began to look outside her father Ant-Man and other members of the family’s shadow and hence, be on her way to becoming her own superhero. She said,
“Cassie Lang in Ant-Man, she’s someone’s daughter, so I’d like to see who she is as her own little adult. But we’ll find out. Who is that girl? Maybe she’s crazy, maybe she’s not.”
Newton also mentioned in another interview that she wished for Lang to join a team and learn how to work with other people, much like the Avengers. She said to Screen Rant,
“I’d like to see her on a team…I feel like that’s something that everyone can relate to, is having to be together on the team on the rise and be together in the trenches. So, I’d like to see some more of that.”
Cassie Lang was teased to be a part of the Young Avengers in a scene in the recent film The Marvels. Kamala Khan reportedly approaches Kate Bishop a.k.a Hawkeye in a Nick Fury-esque recruitment visit, urging her to join her team as a Young Avenger, where she also refers to Cassie Lang.
Fans Do Not Care For Cassie Lang’s Future
The film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was one of the biggest disasters for the MCU, which reportedly shook the executives as they believed that the film was a sure-shot hit. Earning $476 million against a $200 million budget, the film reportedly did not break even and was criticized for its VFX and writing.
The failure of the film not only gave a shock to the creative team behind Marvel but also to the fans, who have criticized the franchise for its reduced quality. The MCU has churned out content after content since 2019, with films and Disney Plus series centered on various characters. However, many of the shows and films have not been received well.
With Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania flopping hard, fans seem to be uninterested in Cassie Lang’s future. A Young Avengers team-up also seems to be a flop as the film The Marvels was a box office disaster.
That’s a huge pass

While Kathryn Newton may be excited about Cassie Lang’s future in the MCU, the franchise itself seems to be in shambles after multiple failures and plans going haywire. The series antagonist Kang was played by Jonathan Majors who was recently dropped from the franchise after he was convicted of assault and harassment charges.
