Robert Downey Jr. Revealed Oppenheimer Is The Best Film He Has Ever Starred In

Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer boasted a star-studded cast and among them is Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr. His antagonistic role in the movie was a breath of fresh air, something the director wanted the actor to experience. He said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times:

He’s one of our great actors, and though a generation of kids know what a great movie star he is, they’ve not seen his subtlety and brilliance.”

Downey Jr. spent a chunk of his career comeback playing a superhero role since 2008. He has starred in a couple of other films, such as Sherlock Holmes and the ill-fated Dolittle, yet he always played the protagonist. Nolan further added:

I wanted to get him to do something completely different, to lose himself in another human being. When was the last time we’ve seen that? ‘Chaplin’? Directors are very aware of how talented Downey is, but because of his incredible energy that can punch through the screen, finding the right thing for him is difficult.”

Just going to flat out say it: This is the best film I’ve ever been in. I cannot wait for you all to experience it. This is what a summer blockbuster, when I was growing up, used to be. It just kind of, like, changed your life. But again, you know, it’s why Chris Nolan is who he is.”

Downey Jr. gave an all-out performance, and his charisma has never faded even after his final bow in Avengers: Endgame, yet despite the epic thriller’s success and its A-list cast, fans are not interested anymore in watching it on its re-release.

For some fans, Oppenheimer no longer appeals to them. The film notably received strong hype weeks before its release, and that was even intensified because of its competition with Greta Gerwig’s Barbie.
