The series finale of Attack on Titan will air later this month ending one of the biggest anime series in the world. The hit anime is nearing its climax after over a decade, and the dramatic finish has the entire fanbase on edge. The community has long been impressed by Attack on Titan’s stunning masterwork plot, music, and well-written characters.
The plot is full of fantastic characters, but the one who will give every spectator shivers is none other than the protagonist and antagonist, Eren Yeager. Eren Yeager has been a motivation to a lot of fans and now his story has come to an end.
However, before ending his story, Eren made history by becoming the first anime protagonist to ever feature in an interview. Eren was interviewed by Japan’s NHK “Professional Work Style” on October 23, 2023, and he opened up many things about himself. He explained his motivation for survival in the series.
Eren Jaeger’s Motivation for Survival in Attack on Titan
Eren’s interview was translated by a fanbase of the series on X named @AttackonFans. In the interview, Eren was asked why he keeps fighting. In response to the question, Eren answered that he has been in an environment where he had to keep fighting to stay alive. He said:
“I’ve been in an environment where I had to keep fighting to stay alive. No one wants to be eaten by the Titans, so there is no question about killing Titans. But in reality, the enemy… was not emotionless monsters, but humans like us.”
He explained how nobody wants to be eaten by a Titan, therefore killing a Titan is no matter, but the real enemy in the world is not the Titans. They are humans who love war and use it for their benefit.
Eren Jaeger Had No Choice But to Fight
Eren also explained how these humans create situations that are dangerous for survival. They expose others to the desire to kill. These things put the freedom and lives of the people in danger and this motivates Eren to fight. He said:
“And yet, we were exposed to a strong desire to kill. I couldn’t accept a situation in which our lives and freedoms were still in danger. I refused. So I have no choice but to fight. That’s it.”
Throughout the series, Eren’s activities have been motivated by a desire for freedom, although he has provided his meaning of the term. Attack on Titan fans are looking forward to the last episode, which will premiere on November 4. Eren Yeager’s candid interview heightens the excitement and expectation for this highly anticipated episode.
