While rumors continue to circulate, a single name keeps popping up: Ayo Edebiri. The actress, 28, has grabbed the attention of viewers with her number of performances (for example, she has appeared as chef Sydney Adamu in The Bear since 2022). This led to talks of her potentially taking the lead role in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean spin-off.

Pirates of the Caribbean Fans Are Doubting the Female-Led Spin-Off

For years, Johnny Depp’s powerful performance as Captain Jack Sparrow has mesmerized audiences and has become synonymous with the franchise’s success. For this reason, when rumors of a female-led spin-off started circulating, fans leaped to the doubting camp. It looks as though they firmly believe that without Johnny Depp’s swaying hips and witty one-liners, the franchise is going to run aground.

Although there is no denying Edebiri’s talent, some fans firmly believe that her presence will not be sufficient to keep the ship afloat and maintain that Captain Jack Sparrow can not be replaced.

Since the fans have taken to the virtual seas to air their complaints, their voice cannot be disregarded. Their message is clear: Pirates of the Caribbean thrive because of the character of Captain Jack Sparrow, and without his presence, the franchise will sink faster than a cannonball in stormy waters.

Jerry Bruckheimer: Pirates of the Caribbean Will Be Rebooted With a Younger Cast

Since the fifth film in the series, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, was released in 2017, the film series has been inactive. After winning his defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife, Amber Heard, Johnny Depp’s fans are more eager to see him reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean 6.

Regardless, it appears that a completely new cast will be the essential point for the sixth flick. The script, which centers on a younger cast portraying the pirates, was much closer to being approved, according to producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who made this statement in a 2022 interview with THR

He provided the following explanation in response to a query about the difficulty of releasing a new Pirates film:

“Oh God, they’re all hard. I think we’re getting very close on that one, too. We have a very good script. We developed two of them — the one with Margot Robbie and one with a younger cast. The Margot Robbie one needs a little more work. The younger cast one is close. Hopefully we’ll get both of them.”

With Johnny Depp playing Captain Jack Sparrow in all five of the ‘Pirates’ flicks, global box office receipts have topped $4.5 billion. It is also the first movie franchise to earn over $1 billion in box office receipts from two or more films, and it is currently the 16th highest-grossing film series ever.
