The release of Elden Ring’s recent Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is everything the community is discussing right now. Fans got to witness the genius of the renowned director Hidetaka Miyazaki in the base game; however, it remains a question if he was able to do it again with the game’s expansion.

Since its release on June 21st, fans have been debating whether the Realm of Shadow was constructed without care or if everything’s just a part of the experience FromSoftware has been known for delivering to its players.

Shadow of the Erdtree's version of Radahn seems twice as menacing.

Being the lead director of many popular RPG franchises, such as the Dark Souls trilogy and Bloodborne, Hidetaka Miyazaki seemingly knows a thing or two when it comes to world-building, and the map of Shadow of the Erdtree is no exception.

However, it remains a debate if the DLC should really be called an extension to the base game, bearing in mind that it entirely contains a separate storyline and there are no dialogues that even acknowledge the existence of the Realm of Shadow.

Furthermore, what has frustrated a lot of players is how the Elden Ring DLC fails to answer many questions and mysteries that were left hanging in the main game, including getting to know more about the character of Melina.

Many players have also pointed out how the ending to the journey of Miquella feels abrupt and unsatisfactory, something that Hidetaka Miyazaki might have intended to do since the very start but does not sit quite well with fans.

What makes the realization more saddening is the fact that Shadow of the Erdtree is the only DLC that the Game of the Year 2022 is going to get, according to the director himself. This ultimately means mysteries about the Gloam-Eyed Queen, Godwyn the Golden, and Formless Mother will likely be left unattended.

While fans can go for days talking about how there is not enough lore included with the launch of the recent DLC, another issue that has been highlighted multiple times since then is the toughness of bosses.

From Messmer to the Promised Consort Radahn, many players are struggling to make it to the end goal, with many even believing that this toughness brings with it an identity crisis for the game as a whole.

One mechanic that the studio has subtly hidden in the game is how the player can make use of Miquella’s great rune to dodge a unique attack done by the final boss of the DLC, negating the charm effect.

Do you believe Hidetaka Miyazaki has finally missed perfection in his latest work? Make sure to let us know about it in the comments below!
