With how much fans love this film, it is interesting to find out that Lohan did not want the part that she ended up with. The actress revealed during an interview that she had initially auditioned for a different role and only agreed to the role of Cady after she was forced by the producers of the film.

Lindsay Lohan Wanted To Play Regina In Mean Girls

It is not that far-fetched to say that every actor in Mean Girls did perfectly in the role they played. This is especially true when it comes to Lindsay Lohan’s Cady Heron and Rachel McAdams as Regina George. While at surface level, these two are extremely different characters, when looked at deeper, they share quite a lot of traits. Despite this, however, it is difficult to imagine someone else playing these characters. This was almost the case, as revealed by Lohan during an interview with Vogue.

“The story behind me playing Cady in Mean Girls is actually really unknown by a lot of people. I wanted to play Regina because I’d just come off of Freaky Friday and I really wanted to play a pretty, normal girl now and I wanted to have a different kind of role than just the damaged teenager again.”

Lohan revealed that having just come off Freaky Friday, she did not want to play another angsty teenager who had a damaged storyline. She mentioned that Regina was a lot more normal and different compared to her past characters, which really drew her to want to portray her, adding that she wanted to play the pretty character.

Lindsay Lohan Was Talked Out Of This

Though Lindsay Lohan was quite adamant about this, she ultimately had to play the character of Cady instead. The reason for this, as she told Vogue, was the fact that Mark Waters, the director of the film, as well as Tina Fey, who wrote the screenplay for and also starred in the project, told the actress that she would be perfect for the role and that she is the perfect person to play the loveable character.

“And Mark Waters, the director was insistent that I played Cady and so was Tina. They were like, ‘No, no, no, you’re the loveable one. You have to play Cady.’ So I was too eager to get in the traditional part of, ‘Okay, let’s get to the pretty part of Cady.'”

This was the reason why Lohan agreed to take up the role of Cady, reluctantly as she, still, very much wanted to play a ‘pretty’ character. This was also the reason why the actress was very eager to move to the part of the film when Cady’s character gets a makeover and starts to look and behave more like Rachel McAdam’s character.
