As James Gun takes the reigns of DC Films along with co-CEO Peter Safran, the reality of the upcoming DCU becomes ever brighter to look at. With Shazam! Fury of The Gods, as well as the upcoming The Flash become the films to mark the end of the old DCEU, the birth of the new universe, will be brought forth by Warner Bros. Discovery to start everything all over again, hopefully with a better goal and vision this time.

While this might be good news for the countless DC fans that wanted the reboot of the entire cinematic universe to correct the wrongs by the prior management, the change did also bring its downsides. After the exit of Henry Cavill and Dwayne Johnson, Shazam! star Zachary Levi has no idea what his character was to do without the presence of Superman and Black Adam.

With the advent of James Gunn and Peter Safran, the entire landscape of DC Films changed in an instant. After firing Henry Cavill as Superman from the upcoming DCU plan, the poor performance of Black Adam pushed Gunn to also eradicate Dwayne Johnson from the future of the franchise. All these decisions have put Zachary Levi in a twister as he has zero clue about his character’s role to play without the others.

With the release of Shazam! Fury of the Gods, the DCEU gets ever so close to going down in the pages of cinema history, while also giving rise to the new DCU. When Levi was asked about what he thinks about Superman and Black Adam, the characters that were very tightly connected to Shazam in the comics, his response was a nod along with a statement that he has no idea what his character is supposed to do now that both of the actors who play the role have gone.

During a quick Q&A on the day of the premier of the film, he answered Deadline’s question, which was whether there were any future plans for the actor’s DC character to be seen with the aforementioned entities. He said:

“I mean, there was always, like some very very, like, hundred-thousand foot view of, like, down the road, maybe we would. But nobody ever told me that.”

Thus, with the release of the second installment of the Shazam! series, all we have to do now is wait and watch what DC Films does with the character next.

While it is true that there have been no indications that James Gunn and Peter Safran have made plans to keep the character in the upcoming DCU plan, there has been no clear indication of a cancelation either. With the first chapter of the franchise still being figured out, there are things that can be added to support the narrative even further. An with the second installment of the Shazam! series leaving no hiccups in the future plans, it’s a possibility we might see Levi and the gang back in the DCU!
