Sharon Stone, an enduring figure in Hollywood, gained prominence during the 1990s as a prominent s*x symbol. Her breakthrough performance in Basic Instinct propelled her to stardom, and she’s recognized for her diverse acting career. Off-screen, Stone has championed humanitarian causes and emerged as a vocal advocate within the film industry.
The actress captivated audiences as one of the most prominent s*x symbols of the 1990s, gracefully embracing the aging process and radiating beauty even at 65. Renowned for her memorable role, particularly the revealing scene in Basic Instinct, she once candidly discussed the unsettling experience of producers pressuring her into on-screen intimacy with her fellow actors.
Producer Made a Bizarre Request To Sharon Stone
In 2021, Sharon Stone offered a glimpse into her forthcoming memoir, The Beauty of Living Twice, where she delves into the various instances of exploitation she faced as a woman in Hollywood during the #MeToo era.
Sharon Stone recounted a disturbing incident where a producer invited her to his office. He suggested that she engage in a physical relationship with her co-star to generate on-screen chemistry. Stone found this proposition unsettling, particularly envisioning the producer in the same context as Ava Gardner.
Stone said in her memoir (via Vanity Fair)
“I watched the chocolate balls rolling around, thinking, ‘You guys insisted on this actor when he couldn’t get one whole scene out in the test … Now you think if I f*ck him, he will become a fine actor?’ Nobody’s that good in bed. I felt they could have just hired a co-star with talent, someone who could deliver a scene and remember his lines. I also felt they could f*ck him themselves and leave me out of it. It was my job to act, and I said so. This was not a popular response. I was considered difficult.”
Stone clarified that she declined the proposal, though the actor did make “a few haphazard passes.” She also revealed that this was not an isolated incident, as there were other instances where producers suggested she engage in intimate relations with a co-star.
Sharon Stone Almost Turned Down Her Oscar-worthy Role
In her illustrious career, the actress has attained immense success and renown, gracing the silver screen in blockbuster films, several of which have attained iconic status. During the 1990s, she was widely regarded as a prominent sex symbol and held leading roles in high-profile productions.
She skyrocketed to worldwide fame through her role in the 1995 epic crime film Casino, directed by Martin Scorsese. Interestingly, she had contemplated turning down the part, as her advisors had reservations about the complex character she was slated to portray. In the film, she portrayed Ginger McKenna, the wife of Robert De Niro’s character, Sam Ace Rothstein, a sports handicapper and Mafia associate. Both actors delivered outstanding performances, earning accolades from audiences and critics alike.
