George R.R. Martin Still Believes There Are Plenty of Shows Coming

Whilst George R.R. Martin reassures fans by stating there are multiple spin-offs lined up for release, they are likely to get delayed because of a huge ongoing issue at HBO and HBO Max. Fans have been saddened by the update as they’ve been wanting more ever since House of the Dragon became a massive hit all over.

“The author spoke about this in his blog post stating, “Some of those are moving faster than others, as is always the case with development.  None have been greenlit yet, though we are hoping… maybe soon. A couple have been shelved, but I would not agree that they are dead.  You can take something off the shelf as easily as you can put it on the shelf.  All the changes at HBO Max have impacted us, certainly.”

George R.R. Martin‘s update also states that one of those shows is a sequel, and it is the only sequel as of right now. It carries on the story of Jon Snow and his experiences in the North, Beyond the Wall. If shown a green signal, the show will bring back Kit Harington in the extremely exciting role, to say the least.

What George R.R. Martin Has in Store for the Fans

Well, this isn’t the first time Game of Thrones spinoffs were shelved, as HBO had previously scrapped Bloodmoon in 2019 after shooting a staggering $30 million pilot. One of Bloodmoon‘s stars, Denise Gough, shared her experience working on the project saying it was amazing to work alongside some incredible work crew and fellow actors. However, she regrets things not going as planned and hopes people get along with it as shows getting canceled happens quite often.

“It was wonderful, without a doubt; I was able to work alongside some incredible people. In the end, though, things did not go well. And the point is that this kind of thing happens all the time. Perhaps people think that, this being Game of Thrones, the news of its cancellation is devastating.”

Albeit the news from the Game of Thrones writer has disappointed fans who were eagerly waiting for sequels and prequels as well as new seasons to the ongoing show, George R.R. Martin has news for all of them. In his blogs, the author has shared quite a few updates.

There is a new possibility of a series titled Ten Thousand Ships, which would follow the warrior-queen Nymeria who led her people to Westeros after the lords of Valyrian Freehold and their dragons attacked them. She had brought her people to the southern part of Westeros, also known as Dorne. She then got married to the local King Mors Martell and eventually founded House Martell.

Fans can only keep their fingers crossed, hoping HBO resolves the ongoing issue soon enough. Meanwhile, Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon is available for viewers to stream on HBO Max.
