After the Twilight films, Robert Pattinson started starring in some amazing character-driven films that showed his true potential as an actor. Films like The Rover, Cosmopolis, and The Lost City of Z further catapulted his credibility as a dramatic performer. However, it was 2017’s Good Time directed by the Safdie brothers that put him on every director’s radar.
The actor was not aware of the brothers before doing the film and when he saw the promotional still of their 2014 film Heaven Knows What, he was immediately impressed. Pattinson instantly wanted to work on a project with the brothers and his instinct paid off at the end.

Robert Pattinson Desperately Wanted To Work With the Safdie Brothers
Since 2014, Robert Pattinson shifted gears and started focusing on projects that challenged him as an actor. The actor started doing character-driven films and was hungry to discover talents and creators that could provide a new voice to cinema. He discovered a promotional still of the Safdie Brothers’ 2014 film Heaven Knows What and he was immediately drawn to it.
Pattinson told Rolling Stone in 2017 about how he instantly emailed the directors expressing his desire to work with them. He also revealed to them that he believed in their capabilities and did not feel the need to see their previous works to convince him of their talent. He said,
“When I like something, I get unbelievably enthusiastic,” the actor explains with a warm, ingratiating smile. “The first email I sent was like, ‘I’m completely certain that we’re supposed to do something together.’ And they’re like, ‘Have you seen any of our stuff?’ I said, ‘Nope, don’t need to see it. I know.’”
Pattinson’s incredible performance in the film convinced director Matt Reeves that the actor was perfect for his version of Batman as he told Esquire in 2022. Since Good Time, Pattinson didn’t slow down and continued exploring his range as an actor with films such as High Life, The Lighthouse, and The Devil All the Time.
