Irish stars are enjoying a prolific time in Hollywood lately. The summer has seen everyone gush over Cillian Murphy’s portrayal of theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer in Nolan’s documentary feature that has made more than $865 million at the box office so far.

Murphy is already being touted by fans and critics alike to be nominated for an Academy Award. In 2022, Colin Farrell, another Irish actor, received plenty of love and accolades for his movie, The Banshees of Inisherin, which received nine Oscar nominations in the 2023 season.

Liam Neeson, who’s from Northern Ireland, is perhaps the most popular actor to come from the island, having delivered plenty of great films, including Schindler’s List, in the last four decades. Recently, he took a back seat and spent time showering praises on fellow Irish actor Farrell, albeit there was one little issue.

Liam Neeson Reveals What He Didn’t Like About Colin Farrell’s Movie

It’s not often you see comedy movies making waves at award shows, but such was the brilliance of the Colin Farrell-led The Banshees of Inisherin, that it emerged as an anomaly.

The very simple story – on the surface at least – about two lifelong friends who find themselves drifting away from each other after one decides to abruptly end their relationship, profoundly leaves the audience wondering about the importance and meaning of not only friendship and other relationships but also life itself.

The Irish banter – which gets darker as the plot progresses – between Farrell’s Pádraic Súilleabháin and Brendan Gleeson’s Colm Doherty generates plenty of laughs throughout the movie. Apart from countless award nominations, it also managed to impress Liam Neeson, who isn’t very famous for taking part in comedy films.

Early this year, The Dark Knight Rises actor was asked by IndieWire to name some movies he’d enjoyed recently. Neeson replied:

“The Banshees of Inisherin. I loved that. I laughed every minute. Someone asked me the other day, ‘Was there anything you didn’t like?’ I said, ‘Yeah, Colin Farrell, he’s too handsome.’ And he only gets better as an actor. I loved that film.”

We don’t disagree with his opinion on The Banshees of Inisherin. It was simply brilliant. But his take on Farrell being too handsome is certainly interesting, especially considering he worked with someone like Christian Bale. Wonder what he has to say about The Batman trilogy star’s beauty!

Colin Farrell’s Acclaimed Role in The Batman

Interestingly, Farrell, akin to Neeson’s Ra’s al Ghul, has played one of Batman’s adversaries.

He played the role of Penguin in The Batman (2022). He’s up against Robert Pattinson instead of Bale in the movie. Like The Banshees of Inisherin’s Pádraic, Penguin also spends a lot of time around drinks as he tries to seamlessly run his criminal activity by hiding it behind his nightclub.

The Batman also features another Irish talent, Barry Keoghan. He made a late cameo appearance as Joker. In The Banshees of Inisherin, Keoghan plays the important role of Dominic Kearney, a local boy who tries to bring the two friends together and he also shows affection toward Pádraic’s sister, Siobhán Súilleabháin.
