Sometime back, it was famously reported that the console would be released later in 2024, but that’s not the case anymore. As reported by Brazilian journalist Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe via OX do Controle on X/Twitter, from what he has heard from his sources, the next-gen console will now launch in March 2025 “at the earliest.”

The sources claim that Nintendo recently briefed its third-party game studios that there has been an internal delay at Nintendo. The main reason behind the delay is said to be a lack of strong first-party games, and Nintendo wants to fix that before the console is launched.

These Switch 2 leaks have been corroborated by several other outlets that have heard the same from their sources, with Nintendo advising publishers not to expect the console before next year. Although players will now have to wait for the next console until next year, this is also good news that Switch 2 will launch with some amazing first-party exclusives.

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa recently told investors that the original Switch is the company’s “main business” for the upcoming fiscal year from April 2024 through March 2025, this means that Nintendo had no plans to release the console in 2024. Nintendo Switch has been a tremendous success with over 139 million systems sales and Switch 2 will aim to surpass that.

There have been several Nintendo Switch 2 leaks, and the console has even been shown to developers. It has been reported that Nintendo took the console to Gamescom in 2023 and ran a tech demo of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. This was denied by Nintendo, but this is only one of the leaks.

It is said that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be a complete revamp of the current Switch with more storage, improved battery life, and most importantly, an 8-inch LCD screen. It will also have a handheld mode and a cartridge slot. The console has also been rumored to have custom chips from Nvidia, and it could also have backward compatibility, which would be a game changer.

However, fans will now have to wait to know about this until next year, but some expect that updates about the next Switch might be coming with February Direct. What are your thoughts about the alleged Nintendo Switch 2 delay? Let us know in the comment section.
