“When success happened for me, people in the industry changed: All of a sudden I was being offered tremendous amounts of money.”

Being a sudden shift in the industry quickly made him understand what lies beneath the glamour.

“I went, ‘Uh, oh, be careful.’ You realize that there are people you can’t trust. I knew from being around my father, who hurt people, that not everyone really means me well.”

He was wary about the fact that “more money” would rise to “more problems.” But he had already gone through a tragic childhood due to his father.

The Mission: Impossible actor told the outlet that his father, Thomas Cruise Mapother III was the reason behind his tragic childhood. He once opened up about his father who used to be “a bully and a coward… the kind of person where, if something goes wrong, they kick you. It was a great lesson in my life – how he’d lull you in, make you feel safe and then, bang!”

His behavior made Cruise completely wary of him who shared,

“‘There’s something wrong with this guy. Don’t trust him. Be careful around him.’ There’s that anxiety.”

His influence on the then-young child came to an end when his mother, Mary Lee left him with his parents getting divorced in 1974. He reunited with his father after a decade as the latter was struggling with cancer in the hospital. Going through such a rough childhood, Cruise became a good father for his kids and enjoys great bonding however he was reportedly “no part” in his youngest daughter, Suri Cruise’s life.
