Black Myth Wukong is like the powder keg trope from cartoons in the 90s. You know, where there’s a long trail of gunpowder leading to a barrel filled with the stuff, and we see flame run along the powder trail until it reaches the barrel?

Sony’s console has been outselling its competitors by a wide margin for a while now, and that gap is set to become even wider. Black Myth Wukong’s release has triggered a PS5 purchasing frenzy in China, and this could be the beginning of the end for this generation of Xbox.

Wukong being a massively popular game is no secret; the title became the most-played single-player game in Steam history in just a day! But it’s not just the PC store that is seeing a surge in gamers jumping into the Journey to the West-inspired tale. People in China are picking up PlayStation 5s in droves to play the game.

A Bloomberg report states that this has resulted in the Playstation 5 becoming the most-ordered item on Alibaba’s Taobao. This might seem like a small bump for Sony, but it’s unusual given that a majority of Chinese gamers use the PC platform and have also had access to the Steam store since 2021.

Given that the game is pulling in such numbers and generating so much hype, people are wondering why the developer has decided to keep Xbox out of the party.

With the game resulting in PlayStation 5’s selling two times faster than PS4’s in China, Black Myth Wukong has led to a shopping spree for the console.

The studio never officially stated that Wukong would be a Sony-PC exclusive, but the studio has also delayed the Xbox release indefinitely.

By sourcing inspiration from one of the most influential pieces of ancient literature, Game Science took on a big task. The studio was going to compete against massive media names such as Dragon Ball and One Piece, and the team has delivered on all fronts. Many have stated that Black Myth Wukong could be considered a spiritual successor to the ancient epic due to the method of story-telling.

The game also offers engaging and intuitive combat, allowing the player to feel like a veritable force of nature. The Destined One’s many skills and abilities can often give him the upper hand on the battlefield, but this does not mean the game is a walk in the park.

It may not be considered a Souls-like, but the title has borrowed some elements from the genre. One of them is the difficulty and tuning of the bosses, and players who cannot recognize attack patterns and dodge in time will have to restart quite a few battles.
