Ryan Gosling Refused to Play The Iconic DC Villain
Heath Ledger’s portrayal of Joker in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight has redefined the character making it an icon in the DC Universe. Following the masterful performance of the actor and his tragic death after the movie, Oscar-winner Jared Leto took over the role with a huge salary to appear in the 2016 movie Suicide Squad.
Leto’s performance did not have enough charisma to impress the critics as he was bashed for the role in the movie but certainly, the movie went overboard with the box office collection of $750 million worldwide. However, many fans may not know the fact that Leto was not the first choice for the role.
The Nice Guys and Barbie actor Ryan Gosling has reportedly refused the role when he was approached by the studio. For Gosling. He was not up for multi movie contract and he had to decline the offer. Regardless, for many fans, it is fun to imagine Gosling as the DC’s iconic villain.
Ryan Gosling— New Superhero Rumor
Gosling was in consideration for DC’s Ryan Reynolds-starrer Green Lantern and MCU’s Doctor Strange before Benedict Cumberbatch secured the role. However, the actor was far from being excited to play any of these roles as he candidly revealed that superhero movies are not for him. Still, fans find it hard to accept him out of the picture, especially from a remarkable MCU role.
Fans often associate Gosling with the MCU character Richard Rider a.k.a. Nova. Also, in a recent fan-made photo Gosling appeared as Ghost Rider. While MCU intends to bring Nova into the cinematic franchise, there are no reports of casting for the project as of yet. However, as per a recent report, insider, Daniel Ritchman claimed that Gosling recently met with Marvel boss Kevin Feige indicating the actor’s MCU debut. Still, there is no official confirmation of the claim but it would certainly be interesting to see him exploring the superhero genre.
Gosling will appear in the title role in David Leitch’s The Fall Guy, scheduled to hit the theaters on 3 May 2024.
