Renowned as one of the best filmmakers in Hollywood, Quentin Tarantino has worked with several movie stars throughout his career. Some of the prominent names he has collaborated with include actors like Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, and Samuel L. Jackson. However, when it comes to describing the greatest actor from his perspective, Tarantino named the Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro, with whom he collaborated on the 1997 film Jackie Brown.

Quentin Tarantino’s Praising Words for Robert De Niro
Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino has always been vocal about his opinions, whether it’s about cinema or the individuals he has worked with. And he did the same talking about one of the greatest actors of all time, Robert De Niro, during an interview with Charlie Rose.
Talking about De Niro during the interview, he said,
“He deserves his reputation as possibly the greatest actor of his generation. I’ve never seen an actor so completely consume himself in character – in true character work during the work.”
Robert De Niro played the role of Louis Gara in Tarantino’s crime thriller Jackie Brown. Tarantino praised him for his commitment to his craft and his ability to fully inhabit the characters he portrays. “When Robert is playing Louis… he is Louis,” he told Charlie Rose during the interview.
One Detail that Convinced Robert De Niro to Star in Jackie Brown
Based on Elmore Leonard’s 1992 novel Rum Punch, Quentin Tarantino’s 1997 film Jackie Brown follows a flight attendant who becomes entangled in a complex money-smuggling scheme. Along with Pam Grier in the title role, the movie featured Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Forster, Michael Keaton, and Robert De Niro in supporting roles.
Talking about how the latter agreed to play the role of Louis Gara in the movie, Tarantino once shared that it was a small detail about what kind of shoes his character wore that convinced him for the movie. He explained that considering his character has been in jail for five years, he only had “a clunky pair of old black” shoes.
“Needless to say, he really enjoyed the detail that I gave him,” he shared before adding, “So, I ended up working with Robert De Niro.” The film was a critical and commercial success and even earned Robert Forster an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the 70th Academy Awards.
