Attack on Titan is built on foreshadowing; from the beginning, the series gives you many hints and pointers, but most of the audience misses them at first glance. It only shows the genius of Hajime Isayama.
According to viewers and fans, Eren was the first to discover humanity beyond the walls; however, before humanity outside the walls was revealed to the audience, Hange Zoë stumbled upon this secret but left it due to not having much information about it.
Hange Zoë discovered the truth about humanity way before Eren in Attack on Titan
Attack on Titan has cemented itself as one of the greatest anime ever due to its compact yet fantastic storyline, comprising less than 100 episodes.
The story written by Hajime Isayam has been one of the best-selling mangas of all time and is often claimed to be one of the best manga and anime ever made, with a fanbase of millions.
The existence of humanity beyond the walls was one of the most significant revelations and turning points of the entire storyline.
The fight that we all considered to be against the titans was actually against all of humanity. The moment it was revealed that humans existed outside the walls, hated paradise, and wanted it to be destroyed, that was the point that changed the plot of the entire story.
To much of the reader’s surprise, the moment might have been revealed way early but went unnoticed by most of the audience.
The person who discovered it was none other than Hange in the OVA Ilse Notebook. Hange found the notebook of a deceased soldier called Ilse, who wrote about a titan speaking.
However, Hange did not pay much attention to it as, at the moment, it seemed unbelievable. Maybe she did not know, but she discovered the truth before anyone in the story ever did.
Hange’s role in Attack on Titan
Hange is one of the most essential characters in the entire plot. She was the one who came up with the idea of experimenting on Titans.
Her obsession with Titans led others to believe that we should capture some of them alive instead of killing them.
Despite the world hating Paradise, she was the one who first took her stand against rumbling and convinced Jean to join them.
She also played a decisive role in capturing Reiner when she came out of nowhere and blew apart armored titans jaws. She also has a lot of wits and never gives up; during her final moments, she sacrifices herself so the others can escape. If not for her, the alliance, which included Mikasa, Levi, and others, would have been killed due to rumbling.
