No one knew the James Bond franchise would be as famous and successful as is today, and this was only possible thanks to the exceptionally brilliant actors who were chosen for the role of Agent 007.
But after more than six decades of it being constant hype among fans, the future of the peerless spy looks unclear now after Daniel Craig, the most recent Bond player, decided to put down his gadgets and step down from the role.
Producers, filmmakers, and even fans have once again embarked on the journey to decide who can be the next perfect match for the notorious womanizer. And in this game, one of the major fan-favorite Game of Thrones actor’s name recently resurfaced who could’ve been the next Bond, but didn’t get to.
And no, it’s not Pedro Pascal.
Game of Thrones Fame Sean Bean Could Have Been James Bond
Every James Bond actor who has taken up the role has further added another point to the already high set bar from every previous player. Daniel Craig was no exception to this either. But as much as fans love his distinctive performance of Agent 007, it was time that he stepped down and someone else took his place. This ‘someone else’ is yet to be decided.
But while at this game, people have started looking behind at all the choices they had of the spy. And in doing so, one name stood out in particular: that of Game of Thrones actor, Sean Bean.
Yes, we know Bean has already played the villain in one Bond film, GoldenEye, instead of the hero, but the then-in-his-early-30s actor didn’t audition for the role in the first place. Rather, since Timothy Dalton wasn’t confirmed to return to the franchise after 1989’s License to Kill, Sean Bean saw this as an opportunity and auditioned for the role of Bond.
However, as the series of events would have it, the producers already had their eyes fixed on someone else (Pierce Brosnan), and the Game of Thrones actor couldn’t be considered for the role. But that wasn’t the end, for his immaculate audition impressed the casting directors so much that they asked him to play the villain-ish role of Alec Trevelyan in Brosnan’s film instead.
Just like that, instead of playing the hero, Bean got cast in the role of the villain in GoldenEye (1995). But although his performance as the treacherous Trevelyan was beyond incredible, looking back, Sean Bean would have done an even better job at playing James Bond.
Pedro Pascal For The Role Of James Bond?
Coming back to the present, another Game of Thrones actor’s name has been passed around lately to play the next James Bond: Pedro Pascal. After watching his most recent performance as Joel in The Last of Us, some fans are convinced that the Hollywood heartthrob could carry forward Daniel Craig’s legacy in an equally exceptional way as well.
Since the new Bond is rumored to be different from the usual, Pascal would be a great choice as he would bring about a whole new personification of the notorious womanizer. Not only this, but his impeccable charm and undeniably stunning acting are more than enough to captivate the audience.
However, while Pedro Pascal would be a great choice, one major drawback of even thinking of him as the next James Bond is that he is a Chilean-American actor, and 007 was written and contractually set to be a white British male. That’s why several other fans are against this fan-casting.
All in all: James Bond needs someone unique to represent him on the big screen with such distinction that it manages to surpass even Craig’s remarkable performance. And as of now, that someone is yet to come.
