A piece of even more exciting news is that the makers are reportedly planning more animated projects to show more of the rich and expansive world of bending and elemental magic. One particular character is getting a movie of its own. And despite what a large proportion of fans might think, for good reason, it’s not Toph.

Prince Zuko Might Be Getting A Film Of His Own

All thanks to the animated spin-off series, The Legend of Korra, and the Netflix live-action adaptation series Avatar: The Last Airbender, there is a resurgence of interest in the Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise.

As reported by Avatar News, an animated Zuko movie is on Paramount’s 2026 schedule. There are little to no details available for the film’s casting or storyline. With a character with a life sketch as dynamic as Prince Zuko’s, there are a lot of ways the script can go in.

The movie can delve deeper into Zuko’s past, the story of his becoming. From a primary antagonist to the noble ally of Team Avatar, the firebending prodigy’s story makes up for an enthralling tale that is standalone in many ways.

An insight into Zuko’s tumultuous familial relationships with his Father Fire Lord Ozai and Sister Azula is anticipated by the viewers. A peep into Zuko’s inner conflict and struggle as he carries the weight of legacy, duty, and honor could also be part of the film. At the end of the day, fans only hope that the film will do justice to Zuko’s character and stay true to the spirit of the original series.

The Expansion of ATLA Universe

First aired in 2005, ATLA left a lasting impact on audiences through its three-season run. Years later, a live-action adaptation of the series was attempted with the original makers actively involved in the making.

However, as fate would have it, Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino exited the Netflix show, released in February 2024, due to creative differences, and launched Avatar Studios. Returning to Paramount Pictures, for the expansion of ATLA Universe, many more enthralling projects are expected in the future.

First of which will be the aforementioned animated film which will get a theatrical release in October of 2025. Furthermore, sources suggest three more films in the making. The reception of the live-action adaptation is proof enough of the series’ popularity. This will only grow multifold over time. Prince Zuko’s tale deserves to be told on its own. And if reports are to be believed, the Zuko-focused film is set for a theatrical release in October 2026.
