After all, the bucket-full of cameos apart, the movie had plenty going for itself and ensured fans would return from theaters with their stomachs hurting, due to all the laughter. And well, Hugh Jackman returning as Wolverine was also bound to have some sort of biological effects.

Regardless, Ryan Reynolds joked about another Jackman-related possibility as he celebrated Deadpool & Wolverine crossing the $1 billion mark at the box-office.

In what will come as little surprise to fans, Deadpool & Wolverine is now the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time. This achievement was certainly telegraphed ever since it was announced that the threequel will follow the trend set by the previous two movies and be released as an R-rated flick.

After all, apart from being Marvel’s landmark release of the year, the movie brought back none other than Hugh Jackman, was as comic as a Deadpool movie can be expected to be, and also saw a range of former fan-favorite characters returning to the big screen.

According to Box Office Mojo, Deadpool & Wolverine’s earnings currently stand at a whopping $1.093 billion, which is quite a few millions more than the $1.078 billion that 2019’s Joker had managed. While that is surely not a reflection of the two movies’ quality, Deadpool & Wolverine’s achievement brought forth a celebratory video from Reynolds himself, as he accompanied it with the following caption:

Needless to say, one can only imagine what kind of effects fullf-frontal nudity from Hugh Jackman could have had on the movie’s box office performance. Nothing negative, is what we will assume.

Deadpool & Wolverine both exceeded and subverted fan expectations

Fans can surely not be blamed for the vast amount of time they spent speculating and increasing the threshold of expectations for Deadpool & Wolverine. Rumors had persistently stated that it would be the launchpad for mutants in the MCU, and while that proved to be true for Wolverine, none of his X-Men mates were seen in the movie, with Cassandra Nova the only other mutant apart from the titular superheroes who emerged as a major player in the narrative.

However, despite it being expected to bring about the beginning of the next phase for the MCU, which was already struggling to move past its recent disappointments, Deadpool & Wolverine did only what a Deadpool movie is supposed to do.

It brought forth a sketchy negative, made space for a plethora of cameos, had plenty of fan-service, and ensured that viewers will remember it for the laugh-riot that it was intentioned to be. On the other hand, the sheer amount of fan service and the existence of so many extraordinary cameos means that it also managed to exceed a segment of the expectations.

After all, who would have imagined a Chris Evans-Human Torch cameo, or would have expected the plethora of forgotten stars such as Mahersha Ali’s Blade or Jennifer Garner’s Elektra having a ball in the Void?

All in all, Deadpool & Wolverine refused to be what the fans expected, and was an unapologetic ode to everything Reynolds’ superhero character stands for. Deadpool & Wolverine continues to be available in theaters near you.
