Call of Duty: Mobile (CoDM) is celebrating the Year of the Dragon in 2024 with the latest season sharing the release date with Warzone Season 2. Since its inception, Nuketown has been the most popular map in the game, which is why it gets a makeover every time a festival or any significant event arrives, be it Halloween or the New Year.
Similar to previous seasons, players will be getting a new gun, Type-19, and its mythic blueprint in Call of Duty Season 2. In addition to that, a new melee weapon, Spear, has been added to the inventory. The Battle Pass Vault, a feature that Call of Duty added to allow players to purchase previous battle passes, will feature content from Season 4 Wild Dogs.
Call of Duty: Mobile Is Getting a ‘Jet Boost’
Nu3etown, as the name is featured on the map in the official Call of Duty blog, will pay homage to the dragon in a futuristic setting. Moreover, the season will also feature mini-games, and players will initially be landing on the floating platform during the Battle Royale mode. Players will not be able to use weapons while the lobby is being filled. Instead, they can use firecrackers exclusively designed for this season.
A new class for Battle Royale has been added, dubbed ‘Jet Boost,’ which will enhance the character’s jumping and sliding. Moreover, new seasonal challenges and events are added to garner new operator skins, weapon blueprints, battle pass XP, and more, according to the announcement. However, the flux of content in CoDM over the years has now rendered the game somewhat bulky.
Available data shows that the entire game, from 2019 to the present, can consume up to 19 gigabytes on an Android smartphone. Players accessing the game with low-to medium-spec phones may find it difficult to sustain it on their devices in the days to come. Given this, players may choose to go for Warzone Mobile following its release.
Warzone Mobile May Takeover the Mobile Battle Royale Arena
There are no specifics as to when Warzone Mobile will get a global release. However, it is expected to make landfall early this year. Moreover, it will share a cross-progression with other platforms, including PlayStation and PC. To this end, it can easily be speculated that those unable to play the game will be eager to grab the fast-paced experience.
Data aggregator ActivePlayer indicates that CoDM has an average monthly active player count of 73 million at press time. However, Warzone Mobile’s release may affect the numbers. On the bright side, forecasts show that over 2 billion users will be playing mobile games by 2026. Furthermore, mobiles in 2030 are likely to become more powerful than computers in 2020. This will add one more reason for gamers to switch the platform they might be using in the future.
For now, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) remains the biggest competition for CoDM. As the former laid its roots in the mobile’s battle royale segment earlier, it holds a better user base than the latter.
