Nuketown is Just One Map Reported to be Remastered for Call of Duty Black Ops Gulf War

SUMMARY

  • Nuketown has made an appearance in every Black Ops title since the first title was released back in 2010.
  • Nuketown isn't as large as the other Black Ops maps, but it did a good job of providing chaotic gameplay while being compact.
  • While some fans are waiting to relive the nostalgic map, several others feel it's time Activision stopped adding the same maps to new titles.

Modern Warfare 3 is already old news, as new rumors have started circulating about the next title in the franchise. Treyarch is reportedly working on this year’s Call of Duty (COD) title, bringing back the next edition of Black Ops, based on the Gulf War.

Just as in Modern Warfare 3, tons of remastered maps are rumored to be brought back in Black Ops: Gulf War as well. One of those maps that’s reportedly confirmed for now is Nuketown. The map first appeared in a Black Ops (BO) title back in 2010 and is based on a fictional nuclear test town in Nevada, U.S.A.

This Chaotic Map is Getting Yet Another Remastered Iteration

The map was first remastered for BO 2 (2012), titled Nuketown 2025. In the following title, BO3 (2015), the map was once again remastered and released as Nuk3town. The last iteration of the map was in BO: Cold War (2020). Cold War was also the last title to be based on the BO series in the franchise.

The return of Nuketown in the upcoming BO title coming later this year was reported on X by one of the popular COD news leakers. The Cold War edition of the map included two holiday-themed versions as well and was a 6v6 map featuring a street, a green house, a cul de sac, and a yellow house.

The map also featured the infamous bomb tower in its original position, as seen in the original version of the map, although it looked heavily destroyed. Hangar 18, Firing Range, Summit, and Berlin Wall are the other likely maps that could get added to this year’s BO title as remastered versions.

Call of Duty Fans Could Finally Be Getting Tired of Remastered Maps

Fans feel paying $70 every year for a new Call of Duty title only to replay remastered maps needs to stop.
Fans feel that paying $70 every year for a new COD title only to replay remastered maps needs to stop.

The post by MW3CODInformer received a slew of replies from COD fans who sounded a lot less impressed. Almost every COD has featured a set of maps brought back as remastered versions in the newer titles.

These maps get hand-picked to include fan-favorite maps from older titles but having the same set of maps repeated with every new title seems to be tiring for long-term fans of the COD franchise.

One fan feels Activision could just be out of ideas and since the idea of remastering maps worked with the Modern Warfare series, the same is also being applied to the other series. Some fans replied that they liked the idea of returning to their favorite maps even as other fans hoped maps that were never remastered need to be considered by Activision.

This year’s COD title is rumored to be coming around the same time that Modern Warfare 3 was released, which was October last year. Treyarch could have a lot of work on their hands developing this year’s COD title, given the highly negative reviews received by Modern Warfare 3.
