The hype for One Piece’s live-action adaptation increased manifolds following the success of the first season. It was Netflix’s most successful attempt at an adaptation at such a grand scale after seeing a constant streak of back-to-back failures. The series managed to hit two birds with one stone. On one hand, it was a ship sailing through the East Blue satisfying every fan and on the other, it was a huge ball in the court of live-action adaptations for anime.

It is extremely difficult to nail live-action adaptations of animes, increasingly so for a series like One Piece. So when it was first announced, the cloud of doubt was hanging heavy and low with thunderstorms brewing, waiting for rain to shower and wash away whatever hope there may have been. Much to everyone’s surprise, the skies cleared for a smooth ride for the Going Merry.

One Piece Season 2 Has Eiichiro Oda’s Hand

Ever since the first season of One Piece ended, fans have been more ecstatic about what the second could offer. Seeing how perfect the casting was, living up to the expectation the series set for itself became an unexpected yet welcoming bar. Upon the latest update via @pewpiece on X, Eiichiro Oda’s involvement in the sequel season is just as dedicated as it was in the first.

While there was a strong chance he could have taken a step back following its success, that wouldn’t seem to be the case. In fact, he might be overlooking the entire making of the season just as he did with the first one. This would give the series the extra touch that made it so good in the first place.

One Piece wasn’t just an adaptation for longtime fans but also for those who wished to dive into the world of Oda’s chef d’oeuvre. This could mean that the manga chapters get delayed more often than naught, and the thought of compromising one for the sake of another isn’t appealing either.

One Piece is Out to Break the Netflix Curse

The more seasons there are for a show, the less likely it is to succeed. This is a pattern not just limited to Netflix. No matter the genre, the rising amount of seasons a show introduces, the worse its quality becomes. Whether it is with the writing, the pacing, the acting, or just the overall story, it becomes a need to milk money rather than give the fans what they want.

Netflix is notorious for losing its touch with some of the most interesting shows it releases. The Witcher, The Umbrella Academy, and Sex Education are only a few examples showcasing the fall of some of the best Netflix shows in a need to have more seasons. While many would think One Piece could follow the same cycle, Eiichiro Oda’s involvement suggests otherwise.

Some fans even suggest in jest how his involvement has a lot to do with Oda wanting to spend more time with the cast because of how much he likes them. If things go the way that they going, then it is more than likely for fans to see an even bigger and better outcome for the second season than there was for the first. The series could efficiently break a haunting pattern once and for all.

One Piece is available to watch on Netflix.
