According to the actress, she did not marry Cruise out of love or affection but she married the Top Gun actor for her protection from s*xual harassment in the Hollywood industry.

After divorcing Tom Cruise back in 2001, Kidman revealed that she has had her fair share of #MeToo moments. She revealed that the #MeToo moments were there since they were essentially showcased through her work and not in news articles for the people to read.

Nicole Kidman Did Not Marry Tom Cruise Out of Love

In an interview, the Moulin Rouge actress admitted that she had been married at a very young age to Tom Cruise. Being married to Cruise, the bond lasted from 1990 to 2001 when the couple officially divorced with Kidman taking the shared custody of their children.

Years after their marriage, the Eyes Wide Shut actress revealed that Tom Cruise and her relationship was not entirely based on love. Nicole Kidman revealed that due to the s*xual harassment that she faced during her time in the industry, she married Tom Cruise as a means of protection since she was married to “an extremely powerful man”.

“I got married very young, but it definitely wasn’t power for me – it was protection. I married for love, but being married to an extremely powerful man kept me from being s*xually harassed.”

She further continued that she had her fair share of experience with the #MeToo moments but she did not reveal them in an article or anything. Nicole Kidman stated that her work depicted those moments.

“Of course I’ve had MeToo moments – since I was little! But do I want to expose them in an article? No. Do they come out in my work? Absolutely.”

After their divorce, Kidman realized that she had to grow up somehow and be independent. The actress recalled an experience similar to breaking out of a cocoon to fly off on her own.

After the couple’s divorce in 2001, Nicole Kidman got shared custody of their children Isabella and Connor Cruise. In the interview, Kidman revealed that she had to “grow up” following her divorce and she essentially learned how to be independent.

“I would work, but I was still very much cocooned. So when I came out of it at 32, 33, it’s almost like I had to grow up.”

After her divorce from Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman went on to star in multiple blockbusters throughout her Hollywood career. The actress currently has 9 upcoming projects in various stages of development including the upcoming DCU movie Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom set to release on 25 December 2023.
