But even though John Cena is considered one of the safest workers in the business, who doesn’t fail to deliver great matches with almost everyone on the roster, this wasn’t the case back in 2013. The Rock later opened up about the injury he sustained during the match and how it impacted him later down the road.

Dwayne Johnson sustained a gruesome injury during his match with John Cena

While opening up about his match against John Cena back in WrestleMania 29, Dwayne Johnson revealed that he sustained a major injury during the match. He explained that during the match, he accidentally tore the top of his quad off his pelvis and as the match kept going, the severity of the injury kept increasing. By the time he was done with the match, The Rock explained that he was in severe pain and was struggling to walk, and needed major operations to heal. He said,

“The problem was — which a lot of people don’t know — I tore, in a wrestling match, I tore my, the top of my quad off my pelvis. It went ‘Bang’ in a wrestling match. And then what that did, it caused a chain reaction, and it tore my abdomen wall…So then I had three — I had to do a triple hernia emergency surgery of a tear, a tear, and a tear,”

Although The Rock did go on to make several more appearances in WWE, this was his last major match in the company, which was seen as a passing-the-torch moment from The Rock to Cena. However, this surgery did impact The Rock’s physique, as he explained that it was the reason why he can’t have proper six-pack abs anymore.

The injury limited Dwayne Johnson’s ability to attain a six-pack

Following his emergency surgery back in 2013, the injury did go on to limit the actor from achieving six-pack abs. Even though Dwayne Johnson still holds a godly physique and is considered one of the finest physically gifted people in modern Hollywood, the actor explained that following his surgery, he was no longer able to get proper abs. When asked about the matter, he jokingly explained the situation to Emily Blunt by stating,

“That’s so f***** up. There’s nothing wrong with them. No. Here’s the thing. I think because on Instagram, all these Instagram fitness models have these incredible six, eight, 12, 24 pack stomachs… I got like a five and a half pack. Sometimes a four and a half pack,”
