With the deadly combination of stunning looks and acting skills, Scarlett Johansson is undoubtedly one of the most desirable stars in Hollywood today. Whether it is with her marquee MCU gig as Black Widow or her foray into interesting characters in many critically acclaimed films, Johansson has always had an appeal that has made her very popular with audiences globally.
The Match Point star though, has proved on many occasions that she can be as simple, down-to-earth, and even goofy like any normal person, beyond her obvious superstar aura. A few years ago, when Johansson was to name her celebrity crush, her unexpected answer elicited a classic response from host Howard Stern.
Scarlett Johansson’s Celebrity Crush Candidate Isn’t Who You’d Expect
While Scarlett Johansson is possibly the sweetheart of a million people around the world, the stunning actor’s personal choice about who she considered the most attractive actor in Hollywood, would surprise her fans. Looking at her personality and appeal, it would be fair for audiences to assume that Johansson’s celebrity crush would include some of Hollywood’s most handsome superstars.
But the Vicky Christina Barcelona star surprised everyone including radio host Howard Stern when she revealed her top candidate. In an interview on The Howard Stern Show around 7 years ago, Johansson was put on the spot when she was asked to name the hottest male star in Hollywood. In an almost shy and reticent manner, she came up with a rather unexpected choice.
I mean, honestly, I’m like somebody who likes Gordon Ramsay.
Stern, who was egging Johansson on to bring up Brad Pitt’s name, was taken aback on hearing that she fancied the tough-as-nails celebrity chef. He quickly recovered though, to give a hilarious response that served not only as a playful jibe to Ramsay, but also poked fun at himself.
Oh, maybe I got a shot with you!
The host continued to lightheartedly needle the MCU star about her choice, which she played along with sportingly. The interview also showed Johansson is a new light, as someone who felt more tangible and relatable to audiences rather than a star who was inaccessible.
Scarlett Johansson’s Breakthrough Film Was A Tough Experience For Her
Movie stars are often seen as almost God-like figures who embody perfection in every way. In reality though, they are just as vulnerable and human as anyone in this world who are affected by ups and downs in their lives. Scarlett Johansson, who began her career as a child star, went through these emotions as a teenager during her breakthrough film.
The Black Widow actor’s big claim to becoming a future superstar was in Sofia Coppola’s Lost In Translation in which she co-starred with Bill Murray. The film featured an unlikely relationship between two characters who were far apart in age, with Murray being 52 and Johansson being just 17 at the time. Coppola’s masterful writing and direction ensured that the movie was widely appreciated.
The filming experience though, was a different cup of tea for Johansson. The actor who was just a teenager, confessed that she felt a bit lost and lonely on the sets which left her feeling quite overwhelmed. In addition, there were speculations that her working experience on set wasn’t easy for her.
Johansson though, in an interview to Variety, clarified that the challenges she faced were personal, and had nothing to do with the environment created during filming. Elaborating on what are possibly the roller coaster of emotions that every teenager goes through, she said,
It wasn’t miserable. It was challenging because I was very young and away from my high school boyfriend. I was sort of isolated in that environment, and it was just hard work. Looking back on it, the whole thing felt like jet lag.
Despite being extremely young and having to prove herself in challenging roles, Johansson persisted and went on to deliver an impressive performance that served as a stepping stone for her to enter the big leagues in Hollywood.
