The South African-American actress first rose to fame back in 1997 for her portrayal of Mary Ann Lomax in The Devil’s Advocate. She starred in the leading role of the movie along with Keanu Reeves who played the role of her husband in the movie. Theron has won multiple awards in her career spanning over 2 decades including an Academy Award. She is also one of the highest-paid actresses in the world right now.
Charlize Theron is very well known for her insane work ethic and for her versatility. Although she is a successful actress, it seems like she is somehow cursed or something because she gets sick or injured almost every time after finishing her movies.
Charlize Theron is a true badass
Charlize Theron has been very successful in the industry over the years and the sole reason for her success is her dedication to her roles. The Mighty Joe Young actress has always loved doing her own stunts and action scenes in the movies but that has got the actress in trouble a lot. Theron once revealed that she injured herself while filming for the movie Aeon Flux back in 2005. She “herniated a disk in her neck after a fall” and the film’s production had to be shut down for some time. The actress even revealed that she could have been paralyzed at the time.
Back in 2020 while filming for The Old Guard, Theron injured her hand very badly but she continued to film with an injured hand in order to complete the filming of the movie before the deadline. She said,
“I basically lost all control of my hand. [I was] shooting all this stuff riding a horse with a hand that had no function in it. It wasn’t until I was done with the film that I realized I needed three surgeries”
The actress continued to film for 5 weeks with a hand that needed 3 surgeries, what a true badass.
The Monster actress opened up about her getting sick or injured every time after doing a movie
Last year in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Charlize Theron got candid about her injuries and sickness. The interviewer opened a question by referring to the actress having bronchitis in the past and the actress connected the dots herself and realized what the question was going to be about.
The interviewer said, “You’ve referenced having bronchitis a few times. It’s funny, I’ve been watching a lot of the old interviews you did around various movies and the number of times…” Theron interrupted the interviewer midway and asked, “That I’m sick?” The interviewer said, “Yes. You’re always sick.” The North Country actress opened up about the subject and revealed that she never gets sick while filming movies. She said,
“Oh my God, that’s so embarrassing. But, yeah, I never get sick on a movie. Never. It’s like my body goes, ‘Nope, you can’t.’ And then [once we’ve wrapped] I get a cough or full-blown bronchitis or I’m in a cast. Anybody who knows me is like, ‘Oh, you must be done.’“
Despite the constant injuries and sickness, Charlize Theron always finds a way to power through and complete the filming of the movies. This has happened way too many times in the past that even the actress herself must have lost count by now.
