How did Natalie Portman meet Benjamin Millepied while working through “extreme pain”

While filming Black Swan, Natalie Portman admitted that she went through extreme pain in order to understand her character better. As reported by the Vancouver Sun, the actress explained,

“The physical discipline really helped for the emotional side of the character, because you get a sense of the sort of monastic lifestyle that is a ballet dancer’s life. You don’t drink, you don’t go out with friends, you don’t have much food, you are constantly putting your body through extreme pain.”

However, during this particular phase of her life, Portman met her future husband. While reminiscing her first meeting with Benjamin Millepied, Portman said in a Sirius XM Town Hall interview.

“I met my husband on it, so I think I was in, like, dreamland. He was teaching me to dance. You know, one of those romantic [stories] … It was definitely exciting and fun. It was beautiful. I don’t know about instant. It was like I really got to know him and that was when it seemed like, ‘Oh this is the person.’ “

Although the duo kept their romance under wraps, the couple were frequently spotted together before confirming their relationship.
