‘On a scale of 1 to 10, how annoying do you think she’s gonna be?’: Brie Larson’s Fast X Debut Gets No Takers as Internet is Dead Sure She Will Resort Back To Pointless Activism

The Fast & Furious franchise has returned and it’s giving all the feels with none of the chill. The stakes are higher than ever, the roads are fiery, and with two new players – Brie Larson and Jason Momoa – in town, fans of the long-established franchise are already looking at them sideways. But because of what the latter brings to the equation with his sadistic razor-licking vengeful villainy, no qualms exist about Momoa’s rank in mass favoritism.

On the other hand, Brie Larson’s character in Fast X doesn’t get to show off much, and as such, in the initial response, there have been (so far) very few takers for whatever Tess brings to the plot.

Twitter Criticizes Brie Larson’s Addition to Fast X

For the better part of the past 5 years, Brie Larson has become increasingly vocal about socio-political issues, especially surrounding women in the industry. A feminist and a “Time’s Up” proponent, Larson has advocated for women’s rights, and those regarding gender, race, and sexuality over the years. In 2017, while filming Kong: Skull Island, Larson claimed on Instagram, I make movies as a form of activism,” and began her own YouTube channel in 2020 to use her position, privilege, and platform to speak up for those who cannot.

Although many have been inspired by her activism, there are those who do not prefer her choice of time and place to implement her voice. As such, any film promotion or press tour that the actress uses to promote a cause marks a negative impression on a faction of the industry fandom. Larson’s arrival in the Fast X family has had a similar reaction as well from the category of those select few.

Fast X will enter the theatres full throttle ahead and leave the audience blazing in the aftermath. With a promising plot and an even more defined villain origin story, the penultimate film of the Fast saga looks just like the summer treat the people need. And considering how insanely spectacular this final thrilling joy ride promises to be, it’s highly doubtful whether Brie Larson’s appearance in the film is enough to throw off the audience. And if it is, then perhaps the actress is really affecting enough change in her endeavor for social and political activism to veer off mere thrill-seekers from the box office.

Brie Larson Makes a Fiery Entry into the Fast X Family

The industry has been definitive in its surprising uptake of personalities as well as choreographed stunt and action. With plots constantly putting a spin on the existing narratives and actors being added to the ever-increasing roster of A-listers, the high-octane drift, heist, and espionage industry has never been so predominantly ruled over by one close-knit set of actors as the Fast & Furious family. And now, it is Brie Larson’s Tess who gets to join the crew in their final leg of the journey.

Crashing into the scenes in leathers and tattoos, the approach checks all the boxes but the jury is still out on her role in the film. Almost every new character in the Fast & Furious family has had a history of betrayal and double-crossing following which they have had to earn their way into the Toretto clan. But given how characteristically Dom is readily trusting of Tess indicates a deeper connection and her already familial root in the family.

The prevalent theory of Tess being Brian O’Conner’s sister is the one that has gained the most traction and seems to keep in line with the theory of how well-equipped she is in a fight, her familiarity with the Torettos, and the need to bring in all familial ties and place them in the mix as the franchise hurtles towards a thrilling end.

Fast X premieres on May 19, 2023.
