Nowadays, it’s rare for a game to debut without any internal microtransactions, and this is also the case with The First Descendant. The third-person looter shooter has been making some noise since its release and has received a positive reception from the community. However, the game is filled with microtransactions, leading to some criticism from players for its model.
Despite the issues surrounding microtransactions, popular Twitch streamer Asmongold has come forward and defended the game’s model. This might be a hot take as it goes against the general sentiment, but Asmongold has interesting reasons as to why microtransactions aren’t a big deal in the game.
Asmongold Isn’t Really Concerned With The First Descendant’s Microtransaction Problem

When reacting to a YouTube video by ParallaxStella titled, “Why The First Descendant and Other Korean Games Have So Many Microtransactions,” Asmonmgold iterates how the game is F2P and microtransactions aren’t really needed for progression.
According to him, the game isn’t running an unethical practice by implementing microtransactions.
I don’t think there is anything wrong with The First Descendant microtransactions at all. And I think in terms of the unethical scale, it’s actually quite good.
He has stated that the game is F2P, and there isn’t anything significant behind the paywall. Of course, the game is intense, so if you want a specific character or item and don’t want to spend money, you’ll need to grind and invest time.

It’s worth pointing out that the game has no loot box system, so even though microtransactions are available, no gambling elements are involved. Regardless, the price of resources such as catalysts and activators is a bit high for everyone’s liking, which remains a point of contention amongst fans.
Microtransactions Isn’t The Only Issue With The First Descendant

Despite The First Descendant quickly surging to the top, Nexon needs to fix some apparent issues to improve the experience. As mentioned before, the game feels a bit grindy, and players need to invest time to progress. However, this has given rise to more unethical ways players can use to horde resources.
It’s not uncommon to see players resort to AFK farming, which is already dividing the community. Due to the intense work required to farm some resources, many players participate in the activity but simply go AFK until the very last second before the mission ends. This allows them to still get the rewards despite not putting in any work. Furthermore, the responsibility for tasks falls on the players playing correctly.
Fortunately, Nexon has been handing out bans to such players and anyone who abuses the system to get free rewards without any effort. The bans given so far are for 30 days, which should discourage a few from trying the AFK farming method.
