In 1994, fans across the world got to see Arnold Schwarzenegger in a delightfully different role after the likes of Terminator, in James Cameron’s True Lies. The action comedy also starring Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis, witnessed the Austrian Oak explore his witty side to great success. The film also went on to become a big hit at the box office, which led to reports that Cameron was planning a sequel.
Unfortunately, the rumors about the possibility of True Lies 2, remained just that. Despite reportedly working on the narrative from as early as 1997, James Cameron has been unable to follow up on his vision, owing to many factors including his extremely busy schedules that included his blockbuster Titanic.

Why Arnold Schwarzenegger’s True Lies 2 Never Took Off
Hollywood action superstar Arnold Schwarzenegger surprised everyone by tapping into his humorous side in James Cameron’s True Lies. The former Mr Olympia proved that he had perfect comic timing to go with his formidable action skills. The film also went on to make good numbers at the box office, which led to reports about Cameron already planning a sequel. Despite having an idea for a story by 1997, the Titanic director unfortunately was not able to take it forward.
According to information from various corners, Cameron became extremely tied up with future projects like Titanic that went on to become a colossal blockbuster. In addition, Schwarzenegger who was asked about the same, revealed that the Hollywood Strike prevalent at that time, was also a deterring factor. There were also speculations that the Terminator star’s budding political career took precedence over the film.
While none of these opinions have been validated, Cameron confirmed once and for all in 2009, that True Lies 2 was not on the cards anytime in the future. In an interview (via Den of Geek), the director elaborated on some rather pertinent reasons behind his thought process and explained why a narrative like True Lies would not work today.
“There are no plans for a True Lies 2. Since September 11, I’ve never felt comfortable generating laughs with nuke-toting Islamic fundamentalist terrorists. True Lies, even though it has a cautionary thread underneath the pratfalls, is in a strange way a product of a more innocent time.”
While Cameron had valid reasons for refusing to take the film forward, the fact remains that audiences have missed the chance to see Arnold Schwarzenegger nailing his popular character once again.
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis Shared A True Lies Reunion
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis shared sizzling chemistry in James Cameron’s 1994 cult classic True Lies. While the Commando actor proved that he could ace comedy, Curtis reiterated why she was the queen of the genre. The film became a success thanks to the perfect on-screen partnership of the two stars, who also became very good friends.
Now, almost 30 years after the hit film, Schwarzenegger and Curtis thrilled their fans by reuniting for a Charity event in Germany. Both stars were in their Oktoberfest attire and were evidently excited to reunite after so many years. Taking to her Instagram handle, Curtis posted a picture of Schwarzenegger and her enjoying the festivities, and captioned it,

With their on and off-screen camaraderie, fans of Schwarzenegger and Curtis will be hoping that the two stars could reunite for a film, even if True Lies 2 is out of the picture.
