The Hulk is one of the most iconic characters in Marvel Comics. However, the same cannot be said for the Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In fact, since Mark Ruffalo took over the baton of the Green Goliath from Edward Norton, the superhero hasn’t even received its standalone film.

But that hasn’t stopped the Hulk from making its own fair share of appearances in the MCU. Be it in multiple The Avengers movies, the Thor franchise, or the She-Hulk TV series. Despite that, one may wonder why the iconic character is yet to get a standalone movie in the new age of the MCU.

Why is The Hulk Yet to Get Another Solo Movie?

After the release of The Incredible Hulk in 2008, the MCU has seemingly shelved all individual projects for the Hulk. While fans have been aching for a new Hulk movie, actor Mark Ruffalo believes it will always be a tough task to pull off a standalone film for the character.

Mark Ruffalo made the comments in an excerpt of the book MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios, when talking about the success of Thor: Ragnarok.

It’s hard to do this character in a standalone movie because you’re watching somebody who, for two hours, refuses to do the exact thing that you always want him to do: turn into the Hulk.

Bruce Banner may have become one of the most powerful beings on Earth after being exposed to gamma radiation, but the scientist always tried to suppress his alter ego.

Even in prior standalone movies, Bruce Banner always tried to find ways to avoid turning into the Hulk. After all, an angry green monster destroying cities is never a pleasing site for anyone.

However, with Banner learning to merge his intelligence with the Hulk’s raw strength in The Avengers: Endgame it opens up a possibility for a future movie with the iconic character in the limelight.

Is a World War Hulk Movie in the Works at the MCU?

While Mark Ruffalo considers a standalone Hulk movie too difficult to pull off, fans still want it. Moreover, with the rights to the character reverting back to the MCU back in June 2023, it’s certainly possible for the studio to make this a reality.

There is no confirmation about such a project in the works at the MCU, but hardcore fans want a World War Hulk movie if the project is green-lit sooner rather than later. If the MCU stays true to the comics, it will adapt World Break Hulk for the potential movie.

Considering the Hulk’s popularity among fans, the potential film could make millions for the MCU. But as we mentioned earlier, there is still no confirmation about the movie officially being made under the banner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
