The mysterious nature of the award-winning Elden Ring game has now led to its fans coming up with new theories every single day. This includes speculations and predictions about every element of the game, whether it be the storyline, the characters, the dialogues, or even items.
One such theory that has surfaced recently on Reddit and has managed to stand out is how Ranni the Witch might be behind the origins of Deathrite birds in the game. While they might be annoying and hard to deal with, these enemies do have an insane character design, and the witch might be the reason why.
Why Ranni The Witch Might Be Responsible For The Deathrite Birds In Elden Ring
For added context, we would need to head back to the events that happened before from where the game starts. It was Ranni who stole a piece of the death rune and orchestrated the Night of the Black Knives to free herself from The Greater Will. She planned the assassination of Godwyn the Golden, which eventually led to the spread of deathblight throughout The Lands Between.
The aforementioned user believes it is the deathblight, or the curse of death, that created the Deathrite Bird and the Wormface enemy. They explained it by telling how they are both supposed to be the same species, and it is the curse of death that created the vast difference between the two.
What gives this particular theory credit is how the wormface enemy coughs up deathblight, damaging the player and causing the build-up of the status effect. This particular attack to some extent proves this theory and the enemy’s connection to the curse of death.

Godwyn the Golden, who was Queen Marika’s and Godfrey’s first child, is called to be the prince of death, as deathblight grows out of his body. He can be found under the capital of Leyndell, where his body has been lying soulless since the night of his assassination.
Bearing in mind how Miquella and Godwyn were companions and how Miquella even tried to bring him back to life, it can be said there is a high possibility that we will see a revival of the prince of death. There might even be a boss fight in the coming DLC where we have to face off against Godwyn and his deathblight abilities.
The exact release date for Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree has not been disclosed yet, however, fans have speculated that it should be released in late February when the game would be celebrating its second anniversary.
