Fans of Elden Ring have been excited ever since the trailer of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC came out. In an interview with IGN, Hidetaka Miyazaki surprised fans by revealing that they might have missed out on a small element in the Elden Ring game. However, nothing much was revealed during the interview apart from this. Fans took his announcement as a challenge and started scoring the Lands Between. Moreover, it now looks like one fan managed to find something solid.

Elden Ring fan finds a hint about Messmer in the game

This particular small secret that the developers were talking about is hidden behind an apparently ordinary wooden shield. This clue was first noticed by Reddit user Cudakid210. The object in question is concealed in the Sage’s Cave behind an imaginary wall and has a description on it.

The first part of the description reads, “A tall, medium-sized wooden shield. Light for its size, and easy to handle.”

This statement does not give much of a hint about Messmer. However, the second line which states, “Thought to represent a surreptitious prophecy of cardinal sin, the lit candle-tree design was forbidden”, is somewhat promising.

NEW DISCOVERY! Candletree as the sigil of a faction in the land of shadow? Seriously how much of this was planned from the start!?

Fans of Elden Ring are getting excited reading the second part of the description. This is because the “candle-tree design”, was seen in the trailer for Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, and this is as fans now know the symbol for Messmer’s faction. In the upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree teaser, fans got to see Messmer’s troops carrying weapons and armor with the same candle-tree symbol.

Thus, from what is looked by now, the developers had given this little hint about Messmer coming to the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC from the beginning. It now seems improbable that fans could have discovered this hidden secret as they waited for the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC if it weren’t for the developers’ revelation.

Elden Ring witnesses a spike in player count

Interestingly, as the most-awaited Shadow of the Erdtree DLC trailer went online, Elden Ring saw a notable jump in its player count.

Elden Ring is an all time hit game

The game saw 112,406 players on Valve’s platform on March 3, according to data from the player-tracking website SteamDB, and as of this writing, there were 67,232 players actively playing the game. Although, there were people who were playing the game after two years of its release, this surge in the player number started to appear in the days after the first Shadow of the Erdtree teaser was released on February 21.

The game, which was ranked 36th a month ago, is now in 21st position on Xbox’s list of the most-played games, suggesting that the popularity spike is widespread.

When Shadow of the Erdtree releases, players will get access to a significant amount of new gameplay to Elden Ring, including large bosses, extravagant powers, and much more. All of this had been revealed in the DLC trailer.
