George Lucas has been the mind behind many iconic moments in Star Wars. Having been involved with the series for decades and taking his position as creator very seriously, he has been responsible for some of the highlights of the entire franchise.

Being a series that spans over the years and so many movies and shows that are directed and created by several different people, it is only natural that the quality of the franchise, as a whole, is not consistent. Unfortunately, Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones has been regarded as one of the worst films to come out of the world of Star Wars.

Despite this common belief, fans seemed to make an exception for one scene in the movie, going as far as to call it the best scene that Lucas has ever created.

A Nod to the Future

In Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, there is a point in the movie where Anakin Skywalker goes to find his mother after being with Natalie Portman’s Padmé Amidala. As he leaves, he tells her that she will stay where they are and that he will come back soon for her.

The delivery of dialogue was done in an excellent way during the exchange of these words. Rather than the camera focusing on their faces, it focused on their shadows on a wall. As Anikin told Padmé that he would be leaving, it is difficult to miss the foreshadowing that George Lucas did in the scene.

While Padmé’s shadow is perfectly normal and looks like herself, Anakin’s shadow doesn’t. It makes it seem as though he had a rectangular helmet on.

Fans Marvel at George Lucas’ Genius

Looking back at the scene now, fans could not help but notice how the shadow looked more like Darth Vader’s silhouette than Anakin Skywalker’s. Noticing this seemingly intentional detail, fans were impressed with the attention to detail Geroge Lucas had when he was making Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones.

That exact moment shows Anakin’s future and also hints that his fate is not far away from him. It represents his descent into the dark side without saying a single word about it. Understanding this, Jacob. on X mentioned how this was one of the best scenes that Lucas has ever created in his time on the franchise.

Others agreed with the sentiment, talking about how witty Lucas must have had to be to come up with a detail as minuscule as this. They point out that this is the scene where Anakin breaks his oath, and that is perfectly represented in it. One fan even pointed out how he acted like Darth Vader long before he became him, and this scene was the beginning of that chapter of his life.
