Ryan Reynolds is not new to reigniting failed properties in the mainstream spotlight, and one of the biggest examples of it is the success of Deadpool. After the character failed on the big screen in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which was also played by Reynolds, the actor rebuild the character from the ground in the 2016 film while staying truer to the comics and the rest is history.

Ryan Reynolds’ gamble of investing in a struggling soccer club paid off

Back in 2020, one of Ryan Reynolds’ decisions came as a shock to a bunch of sports enthusiasts, including his wife Blake Lively. In November of that year, the Deadpool star paired up with Rob McElhenney and bought the Soccer club Wrexham AFC for $2.5M, a deal that was shocking to many, as Wrexham was in the 5th division of the English football pyramid at the time. However, to everyone’s surprise, the duo of Reynolds and McElhenney turned this club into a money-making machine, as Wrexham has now secured promotion to the English Football League.

Reflecting on Wrexham’s success, Joe Pompliano, who has built a prominent presence in Social Media in the Sports landscape, recently commended Reynolds for his achievements. He explained,

“Ryan Reynolds is one of the greatest storytellers of our generation, and he found the perfect canvas: Sports… Wrexham was in the 5th division of the English football pyramid and had almost no chance of getting promoted to the Premier League. But Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney didn’t care.”
