Everyone thinks of Sylvester Stallone as one of those few celebrities whose nearly every single movie ever created is a massive hit. While that is true to a considerable extent as long as we’re talking about movies like the Rocky, the Rambo, and The Expendables film series, this claim does not extend to Stallone’s comedy movies, especially his one epic film from 1992, Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot.

Although the movie was critically panned to the point where even Stallone himself is not proud of it, what’s funnier than the film’s humor is the reason why the Over the Top star agreed to do it, making his reaction to the movie after its release even more comical.

While every single action movie that Sylvester Stallone has created throughout his career is pretty much commendable from one angle or another, the same is not the case with his comedic ones. Or to be more precise, with Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot from back in 1992.

As it turns out, even the Rambo star isn’t proud of the buddy-cop comedy either. Sharing his perspective on the film, he once said in 2006 (via Independent),

“Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot] may be one of the worst films in the entire solar system, including alien productions we’ve never seen.”

Despite getting groundbreakingly negative reviews, the 1992 action/comedy still managed to gross $70.6 million worldwide at the box office on an estimated budget of $45 million, with over $28 million being its gross in the US only.

Why Sylvester Stallone Still Did The Movie Despite Hating It

Although Sylvester Stallone clearly held no good feelings toward his 1992 film, he still decided to do it for a rather bizarre reason: because his then-rival for a long time, Arnold Schwarzenegger was going to do it! As it turns out, the movie was first offered to the Predator star who immediately realized how bad the script was and decided to use it to his advantage.

According to ScreenRant, while appearing at the Beyond Fest 2017, Schwarzenegger shared how he seized this opportunity to trick his longtime rival and score a massive win against him through the movie.

“So I went in – this was during our war – I said to myself, I’m going to leak out that I have tremendous interest. I know the way it works in Hollywood. I would then ask for a lot of money. So then they’d say, ‘Let’s go give it to Sly. Maybe we can get him for cheaper.’ So they told Sly, ‘Schwarzenegger’s interested. Here’s the press clippings. He’s talked about that. If you want to grab that one away from him, that is available.’ And he went for it! He totally went for it. A week later, I heard about it, ‘Sly is signing now to do this movie.’ And I said, [pumps fist] ‘Yes!'”

While the rivalry between Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger is no longer there, Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot will forever remain one of the worst movies the former has ever starred in!
