The presence of a lightsaber in One Piece is a complete game-changer due to its capabilities. It was invented by none other than Dr. Vegapunk, the greatest inventor himself, so fans suspect that this lightsaber might be reintroduced later in the story.
Bonney Discovered a Lightsaber Among Vegapunk’s Scraps in One Piece
Chapter 1064 of One Piece showed Bonney finally realizing what had happened to Kuma. As she kept refusing to believe that her father had become a lab rat, she kept searching amongst Dr. Vegapunk’s scrapyard for a useful weapon. Finally, after much searching, she found a functioning lightsaber.
She used it immediately, and the saber easily cut through all the metal and scraps in front of her. In fact, its reach is far more than its length, and its power impresses those who are with her. Now, you must remember that this lightsaber was found in a scrapyard, and thus, it might have some defects in it. However, readers don’t know if this was the only lightsaber Dr. Vegapunk ever created or if it was just a prototype for the final product.
If Dr. Vegapunk was indeed successful in making a properly functioning lightsaber, then it would become a crucial weapon in One Piece. No matter how talented Bonney is, her skills still need improvement and there are other candidates far more deserving of such an ultimate weapon.
Zoro Could Finally Defeat Mihawk with the Lightsaber
Zoro’s mission to defeat Mihawk is well-known by now. In order to become the greatest swordsman, he has to first battle Mihawk and overcome him. Zoro has only faced Mihawk once during the East Blue saga, and the defeat was humiliating enough for Zoro to never forget about it. However, with the inclusion of a lightsaber, the tables might be turned.
If Zoro manages to acquire a perfected lightsaber, it could be even more useful than his katanas. The lightsaber can easily cut through metals and other hard materials, as depicted by Bonney, and it even works from a distance. Zoro would be able to use this to his advantage, and it would also raise the stakes.
Furthermore, Zoro is capable of all three types of Haki. He can infuse Conqueror’s Haki with the lightsaber to make it even more powerful. By using the infusion method, Zoro will be able to increase both the offensive and defensive power of the lightsaber, making it cause even more damage than usual.
Zoro has also perfected his swordsmanship more than before and can now cut through objects selectively. He can choose to swing a sword and only harm what he wants to. His improved power, along with a lightsaber, could be one of the key elements to turn the tide in the upcoming war against the World Government too.
