Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 has had several memorable moments. Satoru Gojo vs. Toji Fushiguro, Toji Fushiguro vs. Megumi Fushiguro, Ryomen Sukunu vs. Jogo, etc., are a few of the moments that the fans have enjoyed, especially because of the smooth animations. But the animation quality seems to have downgraded for a couple of episodes before it piqued again with the latest episode.
But even after such praise, the impending problem with MAPPA seems to escalate with every episode. The studio was praised for its Attack on Titan finale after short notice by the Attack on Titan creator. But with Jujutsu Kaisen, they are the talking point of every animator. MAPPA Studios is forcibly working with their animators to finish their projects. Amidst such controversy, a veteran animator seems to raise his voice against the issue.
Jujutsu Kaisen Animator Raises His Voice against MAPPA Studios
Vincent Chansard is a veteran animator who has worked on several anime and has been praised for his works. His most notable works include Boruto and Fate/Grand Order. Chansard earned worldwide fame by working as an animator for the Wano arc in One Piece. His resume includes Monkey D. Luffy vs. Kaido and Big Mom vs. Trafalgar D. Water Law and Eustass Captain Kidd. Vincent Chansard is the latest animator to raise his voice against MAPPA Studios.
2 years ago i said iwould never work for mappa again. Hakuyu Go-san was the only one who made me reconsider, but this was the last time. Will see if i get permission to post genga. Here are some photos i took when i was working on the cut of mahoraga in the pool

He was one of the animators in Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 episode 17. Chansard complained about the working conditions and how they were forced into completing it within the deadline. He even wrote on social media that a couple of years ago, he promised himself that he would never work for MAPPA. But Hakuyu Go requested him, and he came back. His post also had raw drafts of his Mahoraga paintings.
In 2019, Vincent Chansard graduated from Gobelins School and slowly started to make a name for himself. Standing in 2023, he is probably the important person to point out MAPPA’s bad working conditions. Unfortunately, he is not the only one who has complained about the working conditions.

Other Animators Are Also Complaining
Jujutsu Kaisen animators are not the only ones who are suffering. Hokuto Sadamoto also complained that he had to complete 250 cuts by himself. Sadamoto even said that he keeps on doing his job, even though one would appreciate it. On the other hand, Shunsuke Ookubo, who directed Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 episode 12, said that he can longer find any joy in his work and feels deflated.
The complaint against MAPPA Studios is that they are making the animators work overtime and want them to huge number of animation cuts within a short period. While the controversy regarding MAPPA seems to be growing, there has been no answer from MAPPA’s side. If it continues to happen, Jujutsu Kaisen might come to a halt before reaching its climax. Great animators like Vincent Chansard leaving MAPPA Studios should be taken into account soon, or it might be too late.
