The Five Elders in One Piece are currently trying their best to defeat the Straw Hat Pirates and take control of Egghead Island, which will help them stop the message broadcast by Dr. Vegapunk. While stopping the message may prove to be a difficult task, the Gorosei have easily taken control of their fight against Luffy.

This is because of the mysterious power that grants them regeneration ability from any kind of attack, thus making them immortal. The One Piece narrative has no possible explanation for immortality except Trafalgar D. Law’s Devil Fruit. According to Doflamingo, Law’s Devil Fruit grants eternal life in exchange for the user’s life through a special surgery.

According to one theory, when Corazon stole the Devil Fruit and gave it to Law to treat his disease, he prevented one Celestial Dragon from becoming one of the Five Elders. The Celestial Dragon who lost his opportunity to become a Gorosei was none other than Figarland Garling, a potential relative of Red-Haired Shanks.

The Only Possible Explanation of Eternal Life in One Piece

Since the introduction of the Five Elders in the Egghead Island arc, immortality has become a serious topic of discussion among One Piece fans. This ability has made it difficult for Luffy to land a perfect hit and defeat the Gorosei, who are stopping him and the other Straw Hat Pirates from leaving the island.

While the origin of their immortality has not been revealed yet, the only plotline other than the Egghead Island arc that discussed eternal life was the past of Trafalgar D. Law. When Law was a kid, he was diagnosed with Amber Lead Disease, which could have killed him. However, Corazon (Doflamingo’s brother) decides to save Law’s life by stealing and giving him the Op Op Devil Fruit.

It was later revealed that the original plan of Doflamingo was to steal the Devil Fruit so that he could attain eternal life for himself. The Op Op Devil Fruit is considered the ultimate Devil Fruit, and the World Government was willing to pay 5 billion berries for the Devil Fruit.

One Piece Theory Reveals Corazon Prevented Figarland Garling From Becoming a Gorosei

According to a theory posted by u/sanctaphrax on Reddit, Imu chose the Five Elders from the Celestial Dragons and granted them immortality with the help of the Op-Op Devil Fruit. The Five Elders were chosen from the Celestial Dragons on the basis of loyalty, ideologies, and overall strength and were given additional abilities like immortality by Imu.

If the theory is true, the next perfect candidate suitable for the role of Gorosei would be Shanks’ relative, Saint Figarland Garling. He carries a similar ideology as the Five Elders, has proven his strength multiple times, and is the current leader of the Holy Knights. Therefore, he would have made the perfect Gorosei.

However, by stealing the Op Op Devil Fruit from the clutches of the World Government and giving it to Law, Corazon robbed Figarland’s opportunity to become a Gorosei. Therefore, there is a high chance that Law will ultimately battle Figarland Garling in the final war of One Piece, bringing a full circle moment to the narrative of the Op Op Devil Fruit.
