One Piece Live-Action Adaptation by Netflix is getting ready for the second season, after a successful first season last year. The series lived up to the expectations of One Piece fans in all departments, whether it was the cast, the story modification, or the character portrayal. However, the one thing that impressed the fans the most was the brilliant editing and VFX.

The One Piece Live-Action had four editors, namely Kevin D. Ross, Tessa Verfus, Eric Litman, and Tirsa Hackshaw. The editors were able to bring the epic world created by Eiichiro Oda to real life, and now their work is only going to get even harder as the story will introduce new elements to the series.

Impressing the One Piece fanbase is not an easy job. The One Piece fandom is too particular with any new project that is related to the series. And this pressure was felt by editor Litman who talked about this and also shared his experience of working on one of the first-ever successful live-action series.

One Piece Editor Eric Litman Talks About One Piece Fanbase

In an interview with Temple of Geek during the 2nd Annual Scene Breakdown Panel at WonderCon 2024, hosted by Victoria Male, Litman was asked about his experience when he first got to know that he would be working on One Piece Live-Action.

Litman stated:

“When I got the call to come and work on the show, I was just like…I gotta pinch myself! ‘Cause I know this is a huge opportunity. I know it’s going to be a huge show, and the fan base is very, very particular.”

According to Litman, he knew about the grand image of the One Piece series, and when he got the opportunity he was excited but also a little stressed as he knew that One Piece fans were more passionate regarding their favorite series as compared to others. There have been quite a few instances all over the internet where the One Piece fanbase has been a little brutal.

One Piece Live-Action Editor Explains The Challenges They Faced

According to Litman, the biggest challenge that the editor’s panel faced while working on One Piece live-action was the beginning of the series. This is because the opening blended a lot of genres and they had to keep it real so that the fans could connect with the emotionality of the series.

Litman explained:

“The opening of the pilot was a bit challenging because we were blending so many genres together. We have steampunk, we have modern, we have pirates. You know, you have fish people. You have a guy made out of rubber. You want to make sure this show is grounded in reality. We can connect with our characters. There’s emotional resonance.”

Although the first season of One Piece live-action proved to be a challenge for the editors of the series, they managed to put in the work and bring out the best results. The same thing is expected from them for the second season of the series as well and it will be even tougher to adapt the upcoming arcs from the One Piece storyline.
