Luffy’s Gear 5 is right now the epitome of his powers in One Piece. He unlocked these powers while fighting Kaido during the Wano arc, and he defeated the strongest creature in the world. However, these powers might not be able to save him in the Egghead Island arc as the Captain of the Straw Hat Pirates is fighting the Five Elders, the strongest individuals in the World Government.
As of now, Luffy has been struggling against the Gorosei, and no matter which move he tries, he is not able to even land a scratch on them, much less defeat them. Therefore, there is a chance that Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, might introduce a new power-up for the protagonist. And the recent events in Chapter 1114 might have already hinted at this upcoming power-up.
This upcoming power-up of Luffy is linked to the revelation of the Mother Flame in the One Piece manga, and there have been speculations that Luffy’s Devil Fruit is somehow connected to the mysterious source of energy.
The Mother Flame is Connected to Luffy’s Devil Fruit
One Piece chapter 1114 focused on the message that Dr. Vegapunk was delivering to the whole world. In addition to talking about the sinking of the world, Vegapunk confessed his sins about helping the World Government by creating the Mother Flame. The Mother Flame was used by Imu to destroy the Lulusia Kingdom.
However, while talking about this, Vegapunk used the term “flying too close to the sun.” Many One Piece fans believe that Eiichiro Oda was indirectly hinting at the connection between the Mother Flame and the power of Sun God Nika that resides in his Devil Fruit. Both of them are one of the biggest mysteries in the One Piece narrative.
Another aspect that connects Luffy’s Devil Fruit to the Mother Flame is the resemblance between the two. The Mother Flame looks quite similar to Luffy’s fiery hair in Gear 5 mode. Therefore, there is a chance that the two strongest powers in One Piece might share a bond that may prove to be a big advantage for Luffy.
Luffy Might Unlock a New Power in Egghead Island Arc
The Five Elders’ entry in the Egghead arc has posed a big problem for the Straw Hat Pirates. At their current level, they could have easily defeated the Navy, the Pacifistas, and Admiral Kizaru and helped Vegapunk escape Egghead Island. Although they have gotten some help from the giants from Elbaf, they still need some kind of miracle to escape.
Therefore, Luffy will surely need some kind of power-up to defeat the Five Elders and save his crew. The bond between his Devil Fruit and the Mother Flame is a great way for Oda to introduce a new ability or even the next gear for Luffy to defeat the Five Elders.
Although this hypothesis seems far-fetched, Oda’s methods of twisting the tale at the climax indicate that there is a possibility for Luffy to somehow obtain the Mother Flame and use it to finally achieve victory and move on to the next phase of the Final Saga, which might be even more threatening than Egghead.
