On One Piece‘s 27th anniversary, a female version of Monkey D. Luffy’s collectible action figure has been officially launched. Yes, you read this right, the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates is gender-swapped but as a toy. This is not the first time that the king of the pirates has had a makeover. But this is the first time he is being pitched as his female version officially.
Fans can now have the tangible version of Luffy as an action figure. This has been announced on the X (formerly Twitter) handle of One Piece. Along with this, there are other examples as well where the characters of Oda had their makeovers.
Lady Pirate King is here to celebrate the 27th anniversary of One Piece
On 22nd July 1997, the world witnessed this adventurous pirate captain for the very first time. Since then, Monkey D. Luffy has evolved a lot through his experiences. Fans have seen tons of action figures of him till today. But officials had something different in their minds this time. The anniversary of One Piece has been celebrated by highlighting Luffy’s feminine attributes in a figurine of him.
It is quite surprising for us to see Luffy wearing feminine clothes. The overall attributes have been kept identical to Eiichiro Oda’s original creation, but the appearance is different now. Rather than wearing the hat on the top of the head, it can be seen the lady Luffy holding it hanging on her back. With a bright smile on her smile, the female figure of Luffy looks optimistic about her adventures as a collectible.
Before this, Oda’s characters were introduced differently
The lady pirate is launched with the same vibe as how fanatics of One Piece have witnessed Luffy. Being open to new adventures has always been one of the most fundamental characteristics of Luffy. And his female version is not much different. The creators have successfully pulled off this version of him and gifted us with a wonderful surprise after 27 years.
But before this official launch, Luffy had his opposite-gender version. The credit goes to Bandai’s “Portrait.Of.Pirates”. Along with this, another limited edition action figure was launched from the same manga.
Additionally, a unique version of Luffy named “Luffy As Drawn By Oda’s Left Hand” had also come into the spotlight before this female look of Luffy. The Strawhat Crew drawn by Oda’s left hand is hilarious yet remarkably similar to their original forms. So this isn’t the first time One Piece followers have seen another version of Luffy. The iconic pirate has been reimagined in various styles before this official launch of his action figure.
One Piece is available on Crunchyroll to be streamed.
