Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece has introduced an indefinite amount of characters in his story since its beginning. Almost every character is unique and has left a mark on the story no matter how small or big his/her role is. But sometimes even Oda is not able to fully explore the potential of the characters he brings into the story. One such character is Baron Tamago, one of the Knight-ranked fighters from the Big Mom Pirates.
While Baron Tomago did not have much of an impact on the storyline of the Whole Cake Island arc, his Devil Fruit is what piqued the interest of One Piece fans. Tamago ate the Egg Egg Devil Fruit, which is a Zoan type of Devil Fruit, and just like other Zoan fruits, Tamago’s devil fruit granted him an additional ability that had unlimited potential in the One Piece world, but Oda could not put it to better use.
Baron Tamago’s Devil Fruit Abilities in One Piece
Baron Tamago’s Egg Egg Devil Fruit is one of the rarest Zoan-type Devil Fruits in the One Piece universe. Rather instead of letting its user freely convert into a whole animal or a hybrid of themselves and the animal, it provides the user with the form and properties of a chicken egg.
When Tamago is defeated in a combat, he transforms into a stronger version. He will eventually lose his human appearance and start to resemble a chicken more and more at that point. He takes three different forms: Baron Tamago, Viscount Hiyoko, and Count Niwatori. Anytime his eggshell body sustains harm, it regenerates him into a stronger form that increases his strength and power.
All of these forms are similar to different evolutionary stages of chickens. If his most powerful form is destroyed, he returns to his most basic form. While these Devil Fruit abilities might not be the strongest, they certainly are rare and have an unlimited potential that could have been used better by Eiichiro Oda in the story.
Baron Tamago’s Devil Fruit Makes Him Immortal
As explained earlier, his Devil Fruit abilities work like a loop. Whenever he loses his first form, he evolves into a much stronger and better form. And when he loses his strongest form, he reverts to his base form, repeating the cycle again and again. This property of his Devil Fruit essentially makes him immortal.
There are not many Devil Fruit powers that can make their users immortal. This ability makes his Devil Fruit unique and if used perfectly in a battle, they can prove to be quite dangerous. The perfect example of this was Tamago’s battle with Pedro during the Whole Cake Island arc in episode 820 of One Piece anime.
There are many such characters who have had unlimited potential in the series but Oda is not able to use them to the best of their abilities because of the plot development or moving the story forward. However, it doesn’t hide the fact that the characters introduced in the story have a habit of making their presence feel in One Piece.
