Finally, in episode 1072 of the anime series, Luffy could be seen overpowering Kaidō with his newly discovered powers. However, it was observed that Gear 5 got deactivated in the middle of the fight. What is Gear 5 of Luffy in One Piece?
In Luffy’s battle with Kaidō in the Wano Country Arc, Gear 5 finally happens. It was the result of Luffy’s Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika devil fruit. Gear 5 is considered to be the peak form of Luffy. It allows him to perform anything he wants, the epitome of power. It was also mentioned in One Piece manga that his powers are only limited by his imagination.
“I can do everything I wanted to do! I think I can fight a bit longer… my heartbeat sounds so funny! This is the pinnacle of what I can do! This is… Gear 5!!!” Luffy could be seen exclaiming in episode 1072 of One Piece.
Gear 5 gives Luffy an appearance similar to the “Warrior of Liberation” — Sun God Nika. It is believed that he brings smiles, joy, and freedom to the people. With this new form, Luffy has complete freedom over his powers, allowing him to bend reality and break the laws of physics.
Does Gear 5 drains Luffy’s life in One Piece?
It was observed that Luffy’s transformation to Gear 5 in his battle against Kaidō was deactivated shortly after. This implies that Gear 5 also has a time limit similar to Gear 4. After Luffy returns to his original form, it can be seen that he is absolutely exhausted and fatigued, along with visible signs of aging.
However, if Luffy manages to match his heartbeat with the rhythm of the Drums of Liberation, he can switch back to Gear 5. Since this form gives him complete freedom, it basically means that Luffy has power over all his previous Gears at once. This means that activating Gear 5 drains Luffy’s life span similar to that of Gear 2.
How can Luffy be saved from the side effects of using Gear 5 in One Piece?
The miraculous fruit in One Piece, The Ope Ope no Mi, is said to have marvelous abilities like curing any kind of disease. However, to utilize the entire power of the fruit, the user must have some medical knowledge. For example, if a doctor with precise knowledge of medicines were to acquire this fruit’s power then their medical abilities would be second to none.
