However, what completely shocked fans out of their minds was a theory that was popular in theory but never got confirmed. This theory was regarding Sir Crocodile. Fans believe that he used to be a woman earlier but, for some unknown circumstances, changed his gender and became a robust man. In a recent interview, Luffy’s actor Inaki Godoy revealed the information, and fans have been going crazy since then.

There are several reasons why fans assume Crocodile was a woman once. The first one is that she was arrogant and vain, and the scar on her face could’ve impacted her reputation. Therefore, she asked  Ivankov to change her gender from female to male. The second theory starts with Crocodile being born as a male, but during a fight with Ivankov, he was turned into a woman by the Devil Fruit powers. He pleaded with Ivankov to change him back to male for some favor, probably. However, the Warlord was embarrassed about this incident and decided to keep it a secret for the rest of his life.

Another possibility is that Ivankov was a Revolutionary Army member, and Crocodile was a slave. To hide from the word government and escape being sent back to slavery, Ivankov used the Horm-Horm Fruit to change Crocodile’s gender. This helped him hide his identity better.

Netflix’s One Piece Live-Action recreated this scene. Like the original scene in the One Piece manga, Shanks, Mihawk, and all the other characters attending the public execution were present, including Crocodile. However, in the live-action, Crocodile is shown upfront rather than from behind, as was done in the manga and the anime. Fans were surprised at the sight of a Crocodile, apparently a female! Since all the content of this live-action was personally vetted by Oda, One Piece fans couldn’t help but speculate that the theory regarding gender think of the scene as the author’s implicit confirmation that Crocodile was born a woman and then eventually became a man via the Horm-Horm Fruit’s powers.
