Monkey D. Luffy, the protagonist of One Piece, has come a long way since being discovered inside a barrel by the Alvida Pirates to become one of the Emperors of the Sea. However, his challenges are not finished yet. Right now, he is fighting the battle of his and his crewmates’ lives against the Five Elders from the World Government.

The main problem is that he has used almost every power in his arsenal, but he has not been able to lay a single attack on the World Government. Their regenerative powers make it impossible for Luffy to land an attack that could hurt them for good. He certainly needs a new power-up that could tackle the regenerative abilities of the Five Elders.

While there have been multiple theories that point out that Luffy might somehow use the Mother Flame to defeat the Five Elders, there is one mysterious power within the Future Pirate King that he has yet to unlock. And the ancient energy could help him defeat the Five Elders for good this time.

Monkey D. Luffy Desperately needs a Power-Up

During his fight with Kaido in Wano, Luffy unlocked a mysterious power, which he named Gear 5. This power-up was completely different from anything the One Piece fans have ever seen before, as it linked Luffy to Joy Boy from the Void Century. Not only that, this power helped Luffy defeat the Strongest Creature in One Piece.

Fans believed that the Gear 5 mode might be the last power-up Luffy would receive in One Piece, as the strength of Gear 5 was unmatchable. However, as soon as Luffy encountered Saint Jaygarcia Saturn on Egghead Island, fans understood that Luffy might need another power upgrade because Gear 5 wouldn’t be able to do much damage to any of the Five Elders.

Later on, when all the Five Elders teleported to Egghead Island, Luffy’s problem increased tenfold, as now he not only had to fight all the Five Elders but he had to save his crew from them as well. But no matter what Luffy does, he is not able to land a severe attack on any of the Five Elders and is in desperate need of a power-up.

The Mysterious Ancient Energy Hidden Inside Luffy

As of now, the only thing that has scared the Five Elders is the Mother Flame, which was recently revealed in One Piece. This Mother Flame is the ultimate source of energy created by Vegapunk, and when Saturn came close to the Mother Flame, his Yokai form vanished, and he was reduced to his human form.

Because of all these instances, fans have devised many theories that Luffy might use the Mother Flame to defeat the Five Elders. However, Luffy still has a power hidden inside him that is equal to the Mother Flame. This power is the Drums of Liberation. The Drums of Liberation, just like the Mother Flame, can power ancient technology like the Iron Giant.

Therefore, it is quite possible that the Drums of Liberation are as strong as the Mother Flame and can provide the same amount of energy to Luffy. As Gear 5 has only recently been unlocked, once Luffy masters Gear 5 and the Drums of Liberation, he might be able to defeat the Fiver Elders and other upcoming antagonists of One Piece.
