Mother Flame, the alternative energy source created by Vegapunk has been a mysterious element in One Piece ever since it was introduced. Yes, everyone knows Vegapunk created it, but no one knows how.
Since no one knows how it was created, the Gorosei can do anything to make sure that the Mother Flame is not destroyed. Afterall, it is capable of powering even the Ancient Weapons.
Did Vegapunk Really Create the Mother Flame?
Vegapunk kept the Mother Flame’s structure and origin a secret, most probably because he knew its blueprint was made public, the World Government would be able to power extremely strong weapons. They would even gain full control over the Ancient Weapons.
But what if Vegapunk is keeping Mother Flame’s structure a secret because he never even invented it? What if Vegapunk has been lying to the World Government for years just to hide a secret?
A One-Piece theory claims that the Mother Flame’s name originates from the fact that it is, in fact, a source of life, or at least the source of a species’ special properties. The species in particular is the Lunarians.
The Lunarians supposedly used to exist long before the Mary Geoise even existed. They are capable of creating fire from their body, but the race is thought to be extinct. The only known survivor of the race is King.
Alternate Origin Theory of Mother Flame in One Piece
The Mother Flame looks like a ball of fire and is very similar to the flame that Lunarians have on their back. But what if the two are inevitably connected? Vegapunk confirmed in his message that the civilization that existed centuries ago was technically extremely advanced.
This explains that the Mother Flame could have existed during the Ancient Period and its power was used by the Lunarians. The Lunarians are winged races like the Skypieans but their flames make them different from the others. As long as the flame on their back is active, they stay invincible.
What if the destruction of the Mother Flame is what caused the Lunarians to go extinct? If the Lunarians derived their power from the Mother Flame, their destruction could have been caused if their source of power was destroyed.
In fact, the Mother Flame could have been made by the Lunarians to aid their power. The Mother Flame creates an undying source of energy, which closely resembles the Lunarians. This is the most perfect source for any Ancient Weapon.
If this logic is followed then the Lunarians could have been in possession of the Uranus. The weapon was stuck at Mary Geoise, and the Lunarians used to exist there before. What if both the Uranus and the Mother Flame are interlinked? The Mother Flame could have been used by the Lunarians to power their own Ancient Weapon (not so ancient for them.)
Of course, the question still remains as to how the Lunarians even created this technology and how Vegapunk brought it back centuries later. Vegapunk’s message to the world might hold the answers to that.
