Netflix’s One Piece Live Action season 2 is under production. The fans eagerly await it, especially after the season became a massive hit. Previously, anime live adaptations were considered failed projects, but One Piece changed the notion and brought it back on the success track. Season one concluded with the Straw Hat Pirates aiming to enter the Grand Line.
They will meet new crew members in Grand Line, and one of them happens to be Tony Tony Chopper. Along with Chopper, Dr. Kureha and Dr. Hiriluk will also be making their live-action debuts. While there was a debate on who would play Dr. Kureha’s role, One Piece Live Action has announced the names of the actors who will be playing the doctor duo.
One Piece Live Action Chose Katey Sagal Over Jamie Lee Curtis
For a long time, the One Piece fans thought Jamie Lee Curtis was the perfect choice for One Piece’s Dr. Kureha. The 139-year-old doctor is Tony Tony Chopper’s guardian and took care of him after Dr. Hiriluk’s death. Curtis won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Role for Everything Everywhere All At Once. While the fans were expecting her to join the One Piece Live Action cast, Katey Sagal was announced as the live-action Dr. Kureha.
Even though the fans were rooting for Curtis, Sagal’s entry made them forget about her. Katey Sagal is famous for her role as Gemma Teller in Sons of Anarchy. She resembles Dr. Kureha, has tight jaw bones like her, and her age is half that of the doctor. Netflix has cast the perfect actress to take up the role. Her initial look is so captivating the fans completely forgot about Jamie Lee Curtis.
Apart from her, Mark Harelik will take up the role of Dr. Hiriluk. Dr. Hiriluk took in Chopper and taught him to be a doctor and a good human being. Like Katey Sagal, Mark Harelik is also a well-known figure in the web series industry. He played Dr. Gablehauser in The Big Bang Theory. One Piece Live Action is yet to have a bad casting, and with the latest ones, they have exceeded everyone’s expectations.
One Piece Live Action Will Have Multiple Debutants
Netflix’s One Piece Live Action’s return date is yet to be announced. But the fans are expecting it to be released sometime in mid to late 2025. Season one concluded with Captain Smoker burning Monkey D. Luffy’s wanted poster. After Captain Smoker, there will be multiple live-action debutants in season 2. Tony Tony Chopper was announced previously by Eiichiro Oda, and his two mentors were just announced.
Season 2 might also feature the Alvida after she ate the Sube Sube no Mi. If the Alabasta arc takes place, then Portgas D. Ace, Nico Robin, Tashigi, etc., will also be featured. For the moment, the fans are excited about Dr. Kureha’s casting. Netflix’s One Piece Live Action is doing a great job with the casting, with most of them being manga-accurate. Jamie Lee Curtis wished to play Kureha’s role, but she lost to the best candidate.
