According to Dr. Vegapunk, the reason Devil Fruit users sink is that these fruits are not accepted by Mother Nature, thus proving that they are not natural.
Therefore, it can be interpreted that someone created the Devil Fruits, and the only possible explanation is the Ancient Kingdom. The Ancient Kingdom had technological advancements that even Vegapunk couldn’t understand. If the technology was so advanced, they could have found a way to turn people’s desires into abilities that they could use.
Devil Fruits are manifestations of the powers that people have desired for a long time. However, these manifestations come at a cost, and Vegapunk has already told us that the One Piece world sank once before, during the Void Century when the water rose 200 meters. Therefore, there is no chance that the Devil Fruits came before that.
The First Devil Fruit Revealed in One Piece
According to multiple theories, the Celestial Dragons and the World Government together started a war against the Ancient Kingdom and tried to control their ideals and beliefs. At the time of the war, obviously, the greatest desire among all of humanity was to attain freedom from the clutches of the antagonists.
Therefore, the desire for freedom manifested to form the first Devil Fruit, known as Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. As Nika was the representation of freedom, his ability to stretch was manifested in the Devil Fruit. This is also supported by the fact that Joy Boy, who was present during the Void Century, had the power to stretch and move freely.
The Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika Devil Fruit, helped Joy Boy in their fight for freedom against the World Government and the Celestial Dragons, and when Joy Boy was unable to achieve freedom for the people, the Devil Fruit manifested once again and was eaten by the main character of the One Piece series, Monkey D. Luffy.
